Has been classified as a center on the 247 composite rankings and he is up to the 3rd best center. Already been invited to the opening in Oregon

Kid absolutely loves Auburn according to his high school coach and his crystal ball is 91 percent Auburn. I hope Auburn takes this kid, because I would hate to see him blow up somewhere else

Auburn will need a center to develop with Reese Dismukes leaving after this season. Darryl Williams will be able do to that with Xzavier Dampeer taking over next year, for 1, maybe 2, years...

Really hope Auburn takes him.

I don't think so. And I believe we'll get Williams the next time he visits

We were looking at taking up to 5 lineman this year but I'm not sure what Golson does to that number.

We're still taking 5 I think, but Kennedy is a center prospect and we're only signing one, which looks to be Williams

AMM AU beat me to the punch...

However, I was talking to a former coach that coached a ton of kids coming through Wetumpka (Jamal Golden, Akeem Means, etc), and he said that somebody would be getting a steal in Brandon Kennedy. The guy said that he had a 4.0 GPA and would likely be able to get an academic scholarship to his school of choice, therefore not impacting the scholarship number of the football team. He went on to say that the kid is extremely bright and hard working. He would sit at basketball games and study up in the stands, apparently.

No kid is going to take academic scholarship over a full ride in Football. If this was the case Stanford, Vandy etc would be able to bring in a ton each year

If you take an academic schloarship and play Football, the scholarship turns into an Athletic Scholarship. So you can't get around the number.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can do that.

It happens, but once a guy who's on academic scholarship plays in a game, he counts against the 85 number. It can be useful for a year or two, especially with a OL who's going to have to develop before seeing the field.

Btw, this is just speculation... I have no clue if it's a real option for this guy.

I don't know if you can or can't. That's just what he was saying.

Either way, that's one player that would never have any trouble with grades.

Not until you play in a game... you can practice/train just like any other scholarship or walkon.

I believe alabama has had some guys do this recently with the Bryant scholarship (which isn't academic but same principle).

This is true until he steps on the field. Once he plays he loses his academic scholarship. Plus side is that I believe you can actually get more money form academic scholarships than athletics if you play your cards right

Also, being smart isn't the only requirement

There are a few problems with taking an academic scholarship over an athletic one, if you are offered both. Most require more hours taken than an athletic one, usually better acadmic performance and a certain amout of courses that count twords a degree and not just classes for the sake of taking classes until you declare a major. Most of those things aren't always compatable with big time college football. Plus, all academic ships' are re-evaluated every semester and will be pulled a lot quicker than an athletic scholarship. One of the reasons I never understood about people thinking atheltic scholarships should be for 4 years when all other scholarships are renewed anually; it's kind of like an extra benefit other students don't get, when you think about it.
