All 5 star guys? Just the top 5-10?
How do you qualify it?

Top 200ish. Top 50 are different than the rest.
Beyond 200 and into the 3* ranks all kind of blends together

Alabama's on the field performance over the last 8 years kind of validates the rankings of their players don't you think?

You can usually tell a difference in the top 10 from the rest.

What about all the players that transfer out?

What about them?
They don't deserve their ranking because they lost a starting spot to someone that was probably ranked higher coming out of high school?

That doesn't make them a bad player who was not worthy of being a 4 or 5-star.
Were you unhappy with Mo Smith's performance last year?

I just use the definition the sites use, which I think is 4* and 5* guys. 5* guys are ready day 1, while some 4* guys are just coming into their own late in high school for any number of reasons.
For example, OSU and PSU are really high on this Jayson Oweh out of New Jersey who is a low to mid 4* kid. However, he just started playing football last year and has only played in 8 total games. He looks like a freak at 6'5'' 235 and ran a 4.66 40 at the Nike camps, but hasn't gotten close to enough tape to be a 5* talent. I would still consider him a blue chip prospect

Nobody's gonna touch that

To OP, I'd say a prospect that can come in as a freshman and make an impact if need be.

I always looked at the top 40 in the state of Texas as "blue chips".. hard to transfer that # to most states...
4*> is a good benchmark to me for blue chip status. Top 300 nationally as well

I always labeled blue chip guys as 5 stars who have a very high chance of being a 1st round draft pick.
So if there are 32 picks in the First round of the NFL draft, I would rate the top 32 5 star players.

Not hardly, IMO. To me "blue chip" is the elite of the elite, the cream of the crop. I don't really think the 287th ranked player falls into the category, at the same time I don't know what I would deem a cutoff either. I'd probably say something like the top 15-25ish players.

I'm likely influenced by old recruiting info days when the TX reports tagged the top 40 or 50 as "blue chip"
top 15-25 I'd call "gold" i guess, maybe top 150 national is blue?
