As a recruit, I would be more drawn to Texas right now

Define "serious signs of progress", then tell me how they're not going to lose AT LEAST 5 games out of
UCLA
Oklahoma
Oklahoma State
Baylor
North Texas
Kansas State
TCU
BYU

proves my personal opinions about the two programs?
that is great, I am glad to have some backup.

as evidenced by recruiting
Sure, let's compare recruiting from Texas and Texas A&M over a reasonable period of time.
I don't think comparing an upstart to a fledgling power over a short duration, then applying that to a time when the upstart is on the decline and the power is returning, is a reasonable way to do it.

A&M just finished up with a subpar record with arguably the best player in college football coming off a year where they were the hot team.
The irony of this statement is that while trying to take a dig at A&M, you reinforced that the current perception of A&M is 9 wins in the SEC is a dissapointment. 3 years ago, every analyst outside of College Station wouldnt have predicted 9 wins in 2 years. Things have changed...

no, it shows how you saying "kids want to play for texas" is off

power is returning, is a reasonable way to do it.

serious signs of progress is an attitude, not laying down for anybody or late in the game, defensive toughness.
It isn't measured in just wins and losses as there are usually growing pains with any new coach. However I assume Texas has recruited at a fairly high level in recent years (I don't follow them but assume on the name alone they have been top 20 or so) and they could have a pretty well stocked team to make the transition easier.

1984-1994
Power = Texas A&M
1995 - 1998
Power = Neither
1999 - 2009
Power = Texas
2010 - 2014
Power = NEITHER

When you have the reigning Heisman Trophy Winner, 9 wins is a disappointment.
9 wins this year will do a lot to prove A&M is a legit year in and year out contender in the SEC.

you do understand almost the same amount of people watched our one game with bama this year than the ENTIRE texas season

Other than the commits, you mean?

Aggies are stubborn and hate questions like this.
I'm definitely stubborn but I don't hate the question. I just don't think most people who think Austin is fantastic have been to Austin recently. Sure there's more to do. Too bad you can't get there!
Education: A wash. Both good schools. Important to recruits? Eh.
Location: To me it isn't close and CS wins. But then I don't get the attraction of spending hours in a car. Maybe I'm missing something.
Away game atmosphere: Heavily in favor of A&M. Waco, Ames, Lawrence vs. Baton Rouge, Columbia (either one), Athens, etc.
Competition: Ditto.
Coaching staff: TBD. I think Strong will be fine despite their new lunatic AD.

K well you're assuming wrong.
They're fricked beginning in 2015. They have no QBs, no elite skill players, and they've signed exactly three DTs--two of which are three stars--in the last two classes.
It's about to get very ugly, especially as A&M continues its instate domination. At this rate Texas will sign 4--maybe 5--players with Aggie offers in 2015. A&M will sign 18 or so kids who could've gone to Austin instead.
