Are you surprised NIL hasn’t created a random recruiting powerhouse?

Texas A&M went off last year, and Miami and Oregon are this year. But those programs have recruited pretty well in recent history. They just jumped several spots higher than their norm.
For the most part, it’s the familiar suspects at the top of the recruiting rankings.
We have seen teams historically jump up in recruiting prior to being caught cheating, so I expected when cheating became legal that we’d see a billionaire fund a top 25 class for a random school like Tulsa.
Do you think we’ll ever see that?

The programs with booster organizations wealthy, organized, and committed enough to fund a top NIL collective are the same ones that have been funding the top programs already. If those other schools had those networks in place, they would have already been at least pretty good.

What if the tech billionaire(s) at Stanford or Cal suddenly decided they wanted to make the CFP and win the NC. They could simply purchase the best team money could buy for the school.
That would be random since I can't imagine Stanford or Cal having any die hard college football fans. I've been to games on both campuses. On game day, you hardly know there's a game that day.

That’s my dream. Tulsa has the endowment to pull it off. Wish they would recruit some high end 3* at least.
But in all honesty, it would be more advantageous for smaller schools to recruit basketball given the numbers of how many players you could fund

Thank God they don't care about football or they would absolutely kill it in NIL

They could in theory but it seems like the schools themselves are resistant. David Shaw said as much when quitting.

yes, they could run the sport. but most smart and wealthy people only care about stuff that matters. not football

I figured Oklahoma State and Arkansas would be two teams that took off because of NIL but it doesn’t seem like that’s the case.

I’m not surprised at all. Most places that have one or two major boosters and not a bevy of them are not going to be able to get those one or two to pony up all the money needed. NIL isn’t a tax right off like donating to the university is. The schools that will do well in NIL are the ones with a lot of boosters that can mutually benefit from the players. An example would be Arkansas. Arkansas has some of the richest boosters in the world but none of them really care that much about Arkansas football and paying just Arkansas players could negatively affect their national brands. They’ll never be great at NIL.

The central Florida dude here is horrible.
But that's a huge school, I know the school leadership doesn't care about sports but if they just half assed it they could be better.

The doomsday scenario would be if Elon Musk's next tweet was...
"Today I announce that I am pledging 100 million dollars per year for the next 4 years to be earmarked for salaries and benefits for the University of Texas football program."
He'd definitely get a lot of attention and create chaos and be really happy and feeling himself.

It’s 100% the case with basketball as the money is pouring in there from the Hunts. Now we just need them or someone else to shift some interest to football as we are lagging way behind there.

SMU will make a come back eventually

Not surprised.
It a team was going to spend that amount of money they'd probably be better served spending it on facilities and the program overall not just NIL, because I think that's what anyone who'd qualify for this thread would have to do to actually become a powerhouse

Easier said than done, you need more than just the players. Many factors are in play, such as academic standards, coaching staff behind the talent, facilities, large fanbase w/ support, etc. Though Stanford has been a west coast power in the 2010s, apparently they’re way behind on NIL and otherwise spending money for recruits, hence their downfall. Although, if they can get that together, land a coach that can develop and heavily recruit academic driven four and five stars like a Harbaugh, they’d have a chance of doing something.

Yeah that was the downfall of Stanford.

Ehh with all due respect, Texas can’t get their shite together with the turmoil behind the scenes. They’ll need a Meyer or Saban level coach to orchestrate it.

Arkansas is killing it with basketball, didn’t realize that was from the Hunt family. I’d say Arkansas and Alabama are better programs than say Kentucky at this point in CBB.

Wonder if we will see a slow down in campus athletic room updates with so much money now going directly to individual players.
