Alex Oriahki is transferring. That would be awesome if we could convince him to come play for us his senior year. I put the odds of that happening at .00001% though.

Have you seen Uconn play? That kid talks back to the coach way more than Tony Mitchell.

It was a rough year for him all around. He and Drummond never meshed, he didn't get the ball near as much as he did his sophomore year, and his minutes dropped as well.

Yea but he and Calhoun would actually have arguments on the bench. Even TM really wouldnt argue.

Oriakhi could not be reached for comment by The Daily Campus. The Hartford Courant and other newspapers could not get confirmation of the transfer from any other sources, as of Wednesday evening.

Oriakhi Sr. told the Post that his son did not have an idea of which schools he could land next. He did tell the Post that Oriakhi Jr. is likely to move on to his new school by the summer, so he can start classes.

"Alex will transfer because of the NCAA tournament next year," Alex Oriakhi Sr. told Duffy.

Now, the tournament ban is a bit complicated, so we'll let Duffy explain:

If UConn remains banned from the 2013 NCAA tournament because of its subpar academic progress rating, Oriakhi will not be forced to sit out a year. The NCAA grants waivers for student-athletes with remaining eligibility concurrent to the postseason ineligibility of their previous institution.

In Oriakhi's case, UConn is facing a one-year ban, and he has one year of eligibility left.

...

There are two ways in which UConn could become eligible for the 2013 postseason: The school is still awaiting word on an appeal for a waiver that was previously turned down in February. UConn's best bet, though, is for the NCAA to change its timetable for APR data collection.

Right now, 2013 eligibility is based off a four-year rolling average and a two-year average from 2009-10 and 2010-11. The NCAA committee on academic performance met in February and discussed shifting the data to 2010-11 and 2011-12. The committee could make a decision on the issue when it meets from April 23-25.

Here's an interesting part of this: Even if the postseason ban is lifted (which is still possible), Oriakhi's father said Oriakhi plans to follow through with the transfer. He would sit out a full year in that case.

Oriakhi, who will not enter the NBA Draft according to his father, does not have a list of schools he's considering yet, according to Duffy's story.

On DeVon Walker, SIAP:

quote:

“I’ve been on two official visits to UCF and Alabama and have two more coming up to UConn and Florida State. I think it’s pretty much all the same (between that group). I’m going to take those two visits and then after that I should be able to decide where I want to go.”

Walker took an official visit to Alabama in February and has stayed in regular contact with the Crimson Tide.

“We’ve been keeping in touch. I think they feel like they showed me everything they have to offer when I visited. I have a great relationship with Coach (Anthony) Grant, Coach (Tony) Pujol, Coach (John) Brannen, and all of them.”

Isn't Walker Coach Grant's nephew?

Could be wrong but I don't think so. I'm pretty sure Walker's coach (don't remember if its AAU or high school) is related to Grant though.

Update from the staff at BOL

quote:

***On the basketball front, the big remaining target is De Kalb (Miss.) Kemper County Devonta Pollard. The 6-foot-9 five-star has taken a step back from things this week, as he had been playing basketball steadily through the state championship and last week’s Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game with little time to think about recruiting. He doesn’t have much time though, with the spring signing period only a few weeks out and visits on the docket. Pollard has taken official visits to Texas and Missouri on top of visiting UA and Mississippi State throughout the season.

He would like to take a visit to Georgetown and possibly Kentucky before deciding. According to sources, a visit to UA on April 5 has also been discussed and would obviously go a long way in increasing the Tide’s chances of landing the five-star talent. The retirement of Rick Stansbury has clouded things a bit for Pollard and some feel he would already be in the fold for the Bulldogs had they not fallen apart down the stretch. Should he decide to stay close to home, UA becomes a more attractive option given the current uncertainty at Mississippi State.
