I’m not saying it’s hard to figure out, I’m saying it may not be all it’s cracked up to be. Collectives aren’t going to get nonprofit tax exemptions the way season tickets and donations can/used to. And how that $8 mill package is represented before taxes during the recruiting pitch may hit a bit different for the kid and his family when that tax bill comes due the following Spring.

It’s just something to follow for all athletes and collectives (not just UT) as the Spring unfolds

I gotcha. Will be a good life lesson to all athletes with NIL deals to learn about Uncle Sam at an early age. My hope and expectation is that these universities will provide athletes with every resource to find CPAs that will ensure they are in compliance with the IRS. 8 mil after taxes is still a hell of a haul for a college student.

At least Tennessee doesn’t have a State Income Tax.

Big get for now but I’ll wait till he signs
My initial thought as well but with the NIL deals there's a very good chance that he's stacking more deals in Knoxville right now,

If the rumors are true and Spyre is giving him 2 a year. He could easily get another mil from other business in Tennessee and essentially by the time signing day comes he'll have to leave millions on the table not to go to Tennessee. Unless obviously someone shows up with s huge bag.

I wonder how these contracts work then. fricking hate what college football has become.

Congrats Tennessee. I hope he sticks and goes 4-0 vs Bama.

To get at the truth of things what's happening is guys are signing agent deals same as before -- the agents are fronting them the cash same as before. This time though things are within the rules and the strings attached are enforceable in a court of law. Guys like Nico will benefit as long as they keep their end of the bargain but a lot of lesser known players are going to wind up getting screwed.

Also, since it's NIL that's being given away these guys are rolling the dice on whether or not those representing them are any good at their jobs.

So many fools bought the idea that this was about the players. Poor players being exploited should be paid for their work even though the only reason they're marketable at all is because they're suddenly attached to a brand. What this was really about was agents getting their hooks into players and making more money without the fear of getting caught.

That said, Nico decided on Tennessee not because of NIL (other schools have NIL) but because Mama fell in love with Tennessee. According to her (and she speaks about it in his commitment vid), she's not big on being spotlighted but she cried when we chanted "We want Nico" during the UT-ARK basketball game.
