cost of air travel vs car. The whole family can go and pay $200. Oregon will probably play three game that are 8:30 pm their time.

Only an insane person who enjoys long arse trips in a car is gonna drive 11 hours for a round trip weekend.

Lastly, you’re dreaming that a trip to Athens is an hour and half on Friday or Saturday on game day. I travel to JOHNS CREEK quarterly and that an hour and a half with traffic.

I have made the trip from south of Portland to SLC no less than 5x. It’s a really easy drive. It’s faster than going to San Fran and we have families from Nor Cal that drive up all the time. You’re kidding yourself.

12 h 40 min (781.7 mi) via I-84 W and Hwy 20 W

Google says^^^. That would be with almost no stopping. Have you ever traveled w/ a woman? Do you know how many bathroom breaks they need over a 12 hour drive? Nobody is driving that far for 2-3 day trip. Most people would want to stay at least 3 days there for two whole days of driving - so that is a total of 5 days. If you aren't flying, you are gonna sit in the barcolounger and watch the game.

You are the one kidding yourself.

I have driven all around the US. I84 that stretches from Pocatello to Portland is the most comfortable driving I have done. That accounts for 85% of the drive. I also have free lodging in Boise with family, as I am sure the Sewell family does as well.

This is pretty common on the west coast.

I drove from south of portland, stopped in Nampa, ID for four hours and made it to Provo. That was with a wife and two kids. My Grandparents with an RV traveled from Nampa to Beaver, UTAH regularly at 80, bro.

You guys play big boy football but are pansies when it comes to road travel?

They're not driving 11 hours to Oregon, and two empty nesters with all of their kids on scholarship can most certainly afford plane tickets to come to a few games - especially considering they can get to Atlanta for under $200.

If he's considering his NFL prospects, it's a no brainer to head to a national title contender with what will probably be a top 2 or 3 defense that showcases it's linebackers more than any other position.

They were apparently tapped out after the Rivals and opening circuit this year.

Also, Avalos defenses are linebacker centric.

I am not saying what GA has isn't impressive. However, you're fooling yourself if you think you have a big leg up.

shite...we had a bunch of recruits come up via car to our saturday night live event and a DAD drove them from the LA area. That's a 17 hour trip.

Is this seriously uncommon out East?

I drove all the time to games in college. But it’s not all that common for families to drive to games that far. Generally means you have to skip work Friday or leave early Sunday. Flights are significantly easier.

I hate driving 7 hours. I would never drive 11, much less 17.

This will be my last post on this. I am not saying that they would travel by car for all 6 games. However, it could mean the difference of seeing their youngest play 2 more times per year. They wouldn't have to plan for the conference championship game because it's in Vegas. Also, they could see games in Boulder and Pullman really easily. It's not just comparing a flight from SLC to Atanta and form SLC to Eugene.

Also, we have a family house in Sedona. The trip from Portland to Sedona on I84 and south throuh SLC is some of the most majestic travel you will do in your entire life. It's mountainous, diverse, and the infrastructure makes the trip comfortable.

My wife and family absolutely love it.

One thing is I would never try to influence my son's future college choice in order to have an easier to cheaper time visiting him. Hopefully his parents wouldnt either, for his sake and ours.

All things being equal, it's a huge consideration. Also, it's not just parents seeing them it's extended family and friends. A lot of people don't have the money to fly, rent a car and pay for lodging multiple times a year.

Avalos coached DL from '12-'13 and he recruited and coached Demarcus Lawarence into the first two rounds. Then he recruited Correa and Vander Esch at LB when he coached there and was DC and focused on LB. He put 3 players in the first 2 rounds, one every other year at BSU, a G5 school. He also put Weaver at LB on track next year.

Avalos has a very multiple defense that features two hybrid LB positions, which is perfect for a jumbo athlete like Sewell.

Also, Oregon is about to put together three classes in the PAC 12 that average #10. Cristobal is putting together an SEC roster in the Pac 12 with a S&C program whereby the rest of the league lags far behind. If you really think that won't put us in the playoff contender conversation from 2020-2022, I don't know what to tell you.

I would tell my son to not take that into consideration at all. Its his future, not mine.

Look, I am most likely moving to Johns Creek, GA. Already being nudged to do so at work. I travel there 4x a year minimum. I go to SLC twice a year minimum. I am down in Eugene 6x a year a minimum.

A Poly kid from SLC is going to adapt easier in Eugene, OR than Athens, GA. Is there even one Poly kid on your roster?

If the desire is really to be a maverick, more power to him. I respect that as someone who went to college in Central PA from Oregon.

Ika to LSU made some sense because of Fehoko and and Aranda coaching at Utah St. We'll see.

I have wanted a poly on our team for a long time. I hope we finally get one. Our very own poly maverick.

Doesn’t all the athletes in the family go to different schools? Clearly they choose what’s best for their development instead of choosing schools based on Poly kids.

The two brothers both went to Nevada in Reno. One transferred to Utah after becoming a starter and showing he was PAC 12 quality. Nephi was also home sick. Penei was Bama vs Oregon but he was a blue chip recruit.

Those schools all have a lot of polys.

This dude is talking about driving nearly 800 miles one way like it's nothing. Putting 1600 miles on your car in a week is nonsense.

When I drive to Sedona, I rent a car. The rental, hotel and gas are half the price of flying 5 people out. You also can see national parks and some of my best conversations occurred on road trips.

After reading this thread, I can see why we carry so much consumer debt in this county. A lot of you are glib about hundreds of dollars.
