What I was told, and I believe this person, is that he had a pre-existing mood disorder (bipolar) and smoked synthetic weed which triggered an acute psychiatric episode that required short term inpatient treatment. His mother then came to get him and bring him home to care for him.
He’s a great kid by all accounts and I hope he comes back to LSU.

This is more frequent than many realize. Bipolar usually rears it head for the first time around 18 to 20. So add stress of going to college and you will see kids have their first episode their Freshman year. Also Bipolars often “self medicate” trying to feel good. I speak as a Father that had to drop what he was doing to drive to Oxford. Once I got there I realized my son was paranoid & delusional and had to have him admitted on a 72 hour hold. It took a toll on our relationship and it has taken close to 3 years to get him on the right course.

Almost everyone on almost every team smokes weed.
If Gilbert failed a test then he could have gone home because he realized he was likely to be suspended anyway and this way O can keep smoke off him by him opting out.
As I already said, personally I think Arik Gilbert will be playing for LSU in 2021

It was confirmed this morning that Gilbert has taken the next step towards leaving and entered the transfer portal. Per feldman.

And I saw a tweet from an SEC recruiting guy with a clip from feldman saying he entered the portal. Do your own damn research.
It's certainly possible for a guy in the portal to come out and go back to their school. But it's rare.

Unless that dude has other information, Feldman said this in a podcast, but he stumbled over his words when he said it and it's really hard to tell if he was misspeaking.
He said "then Arik Gilbert...he opts out, or he basically, uh, goes into the transfer portal, which is essentially opting out."
So, I'm not sure what to make of this at all. This makes it sound like he went into the transfer portal last week, which hasn't been reported by anyone. People who cover LSU would have known and reported this already.
Regardless, this was on a podcast that was released o Sunday. LINK (9:40 mark)

Feldman was wrong, the portal is a place people can see, he's not in there.
The moment he would go in there it would be all over the premium pay boards. Feldman was just making an assumption.

He's not in there, it's something anyone can see pretty plainly. 247's portal scrapes the NCAA's portal everyday sometimes multiple times a day i believe...again, Feldman just made an assumption. The whole point of the portal now was everything to be transparent. There's no way to "Secretly" bein the portal.
