Again, can you explain to me the benefit of getting the #80 player over, say, the #14 or #19 ranked player?

Losing the number one OT in the state would hurt if Bama wasn't such a national recruiting power. With Bama getting 5 star guys from coast to coast, it's not a big loss.

Do OTs from Alabama block better than ones from California or New York? I'm not understanding why his home state is relevant.
