Yea, I guess I'll try to check out Rivals later. There is literally nothing on Youtube.

I'm pretty sure I saw Jeremy Johnson tonight in Birmingham, he's a pretty big kid.

He could be around Cam Newton's size in a couple years...
Maybe not all the way at 250, but he could get pretty close to around 240. He's got some wheels on him, too. With the possibilty of Clint Moseley transferring, we definitely need to bring in 2 QB in this class.

I googled "Melvin Ray Highlights" and found three rivals videos. Those were the only three videos on him though.

I don't see him contending for a starting spot. I think he'll get Benton kind of playing time next year.
However, there's really no telling with Lefty running the offense. For all I know, Lefty will see something he likes

We are your main competition and tbh I don't want another JJ at QB for a while.
Also we are looking at Connor Mitch. If we offer and land him it will lead to massive ammounts of Mitch Connor signs on campus. Maybe shirts!
Sadly I think we land JT Barrett

I'm just worried we won't take him even if he wants to sign. Leoffler seems pretty high on that Rettig kid and there are some others we're chasing as well that are probably higher.

LSU might definitely get JJ if we don't take him, then...
I want him bad. Really bad.

That is when you have to trust Loeffler knows what he is doing, and relies on his key elements he must see a QB possess to succeed. Does it mean ones he passes on won't shine? No, but I am hopeful the QB position will produce lots of wins while he is OC.

Yeah, I get that and everything, I just hate to see him pass up on a guy in our own backyard like this. I'd rather us keep the 4* home than pull a 5* from the West Coast, you know?

I wouldn't be worried. You are no longer going to be a full spread eagle. Pun intended.
We passed on Teddy Bridgewater a few years ago because we didn't think he fit the mold of an LSU QB. What exactly that mold is really the big question. Looking back we could have really added him and started a nice pipeline to Miami Northwestern. Instead Bama just did that with the addition of Cooper and his teammate in 2013. How ever he wasn't a can't miss guy like Stephen Rivers apparently.
Ok, I'm probably not helping your "trust" in the coaches.

Have a buddy who was a HS coach and still works and trains Melvin in offseasons, says he stayed in great shape while still playing baseball, 6'3 215 runs really well, still phenomenal hands, will get in rotation early and often catches better than anyone on the team including Lutz, and runs in open space etc like a more physical RB after catches more straightline speed not as shifty so a different type of talent
(this is all from him, he always raves about his hands and how great they are)

What you've described sounds like a 1st round pick. Receivers are tricky to project and Taylor is crazy loyal to veterans. I just don't see him getting much playing time.

How? I can't remember Lutz ever dropping a ball.

But what vets do we really have at WR for Trooper to be crazy loyal to? Outside Blake starting at one spot we don't really have anyone outside of Benton, who I doubt will get much loyalty. I guess we also have Stallworth, but neither he nor Benton have really played much so far in their careers.

Depends on what lefty runs. You're automatically going to have Blake and then Reed/Bray. Leaves one spot open, and there are going to potentially be up to 6 guys that could fit that role.
Like I said, I just don't see Ray getting too many meaningful touches.

I'm with you as I like JJ a lot. He has the look of a really good QB, but with that said I like the fact we are becoming a program that can pull top talent throughout the country.

The 4* is uber-raw and is more or less a coin flip. You'd take a complete project over a superior prospect because he's a local kid? You cant make those types of choices when the school across the state is putting out NFL mini-teams and you're competing in the best division in college football. Lets get real; Jeremy Johnson is being slow played because we are recruiting better quarterbacks than him at this time. The reason why JJ has next to no offers at this time is because everyone else is waiting to see just how much of a project he is going to be.

Lest we forgot that we just signed a complete project QB in this year's class with Pike. That puts added emphasis on the need to sign the best complete quarterback prospect we can in this class.
