So I haven't read all the pages of the thread and not sure if this has been brought up, but supposedly Langley is pretty serious about getting his teammate an offer as well. If that is the case, then he could very well end up at UT, as UGA does not apparently plan on extending an offer and Bama isn't likely given their short numbers this year ( of course, normal for every other school). Just an FYI. It came from a few reliable UGA guys.

Did saban run a different d at lsu? There fans seem to have no clue what the jack really is.

Yeah, he didn't make a switch preference until Miami.

Even then, it's not like it's that different from the 43. Saban love his nickle, which would make Nkemdiche a down lineman regardless. They act like he'll be standing up dropping in coverage all the time.

The Jack LB is basically the same as the DE in 4-3 with the advantage that he can line up on either side making it more difficult for the offense to anticipate where he's coming from

I wonder if there has ever been a situation in a 34 that a former starter at 5 tech ended up later playing the Hybrid DE/OLB role?

Like if Hubbard has a great year and returns, and Nkemdiche signs with Bama. It would be really hard to move Hubbard out of a central rushing role, and Nkemdiche isn't gonna sit on the bench. So they keep Hubbard at JACK and play Nkemdiche at 5 tech.

Assuming Hubbard leaves after another good year, Nkemdiche has the athleticism to move back and replace him there. Although with the ways passrushers are coveted, Hubbard is probably gone with a 10 sack season this year.

I could see that being a possibility but I think it's more likely in that situation that RN would be the 2nd Jack in the rabbit rush package the way Upshaw did in '09. Basically situational work as a freshman, then starter for the next 2 years at Jack possibly with Hubbard at Sam.

I like Hubbard but I'm not as sold on him being a superstar as some. I don't think he'll be any better than Upshaw was last year until maybe his senior year especially against the run. Maybe he'll prove me wrong though.

Despite it being plausible, I don't see it happening that way myself. It would be as you said most likely, barring some major production from Hubbard.

I don't have high expectations for Hubbard this year, although he you can't deny the rave reviews he received this Spring. I think he could have one of those "watch out for me next year" type years that mixes dominance with inconsistency...

So that's where Muschamp got all the Nickel crap from. I swear we ran that 80% of tr time last year.

Florida's defense will be 3rd to Alabama and LSU this year IMO. Their front 7 is beastly. Got some young but talented guys in the Secondary. Georgia and South Carolina will follow suit IMO after UA,LSU,UF. I think total defense will look something like.

UA
LSU
UF
UGA
USCe (they lost a couple of huge guys and are not swimming in talent like UA.)

I still wonder if the LSU fans have actually watched his HS film. They play a 3-4. On defense he is either the outside DE with his hand down or some times he is standing up rushing off the end like a Jack. I do not think in any of his highlights does his team play a 4-3. So why all of a sudden would it concern him what formation he would play in. His stats come form the same formation UA plays.

UGA will finish ahead of UF in total D (I reserve the right to change this prediction if Mizzou drops 35 on them)
