Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge five-star weakside defensive end Jonathan Allen made his long awaited first visit to Alabama this weekend. The 6-foot-3, 230-pounder arrived in Tuscaloosa early Saturday morning and started an eventful day shortly thereafter.

“We left Friday around 7 and then got here around 4 am today (Saturday). We woke up, had a little breakfast and met up with all the coaches. After that, we went out and got some lunch, relaxed a little bit, and went out with some of the players. Mostly we were meeting with the coaches,” detailed Allen.

The visit provided Allen with his first chance to see Tuscaloosa and the Alabama campus, and the former Anniston resident came away liking what he saw.

“I was really impressed. I really like the campus. It’s spread out and real relaxed. Plus, I had a great time with the coaches. I had a really good time down here and couldn’t point out anything I didn’t like.”

The elite edge rusher singled out his meeting with head coach Nick Saban as the highlight of the day.

“Definitely talking to Coach Saban was the highlight. That’s what I was looking for going into the visit. I’m glad I got that opportunity. Oh man, it was good, definitely. He’s an inspirational speaker, so I enjoyed talking to him. He was talking about how I would fit into the program and stuff like that. It was really nice to meet with him.”

Allen was also able to meet extensively with area recruiter and Jack position coach Lance Thompson.

“It was good to meet with Coach Thompson- it gave me the chance to see what type of guy he is. He showed me how it would if I went there. I enjoyed talking to him and seeing how I would fit into the scheme and stuff like that.”

The Washington D.C. area standout ended the night hanging out with current Tide players Eddie Lacy and Kenny Bell.

“I was with Eddie and one of the wide receivers, Kenny. It was good- I enjoyed it. I got to hear how they feel about Alabama and get their perspective on things, so that was straight.”

Allen leaves Tuscaloosa with the Tide on top and plans for a decision to be made in the coming weeks.

“I’d definitely have Alabama at the top right now. I feel like I enjoyed this visit more than any other one. I’m going to make a decision within the next two weeks. It’s pretty much between Alabama and Florida right now.”

Allen has a grade of 98 from 247Sports and is ranked as the no. 10 overall prospect in the nation. He registered 102 tackles and 15 sacks as a junior for Stone Bridge.

Heard lots of VERY interesting info today, went to dinner (double date) with wifey and someone very interesting I'll leave it at that had lots of great info

Also got the text at about 645 or so when Allen told staff

Anyway...

The remaining spots are gonna be of utmost importance to fill needs, a guy like Henry from Yulee, while a great project, not gonna pursue his interest PARTICULARLY with a guy already committed, for instance the staff, Coach Rumph has been raving about Paige, telling Smart he can fix his stance and turn him into Dareus 2.0, Saban wanted a camp visit to determine because he hasn't seen him in person, but the offer list DOUBLED after a few game films were sent out and he attended Louisville camp I believe, he called Pruitt (main recruiter) and told him he was getting other offers but he felt his heart was Bama (kid is a HUGE Bama fan) and he would wait if he had too, but would commit with a solid offer and still come and shred camp competition, that impressed Saban and Smart enough along with Rumph's endorsement that he was given a solid offer and committed upon recieving word. Point is, we took a commitment from a need position NG/DT with little exposure YET over throwing our hat into a ring with a guy who wants to visit etc

The whole staff has really been impressed with Coach Nuss' ability to recruit so far, many on staff believe we are in a great position to land Robert Foster, as well as McNeil, who are both major targets for Nuss as well as Bateman (more on him later) and he has gone and been a major factor to the point of coming close to landing 2 and reeling in his QB, he has already gained tremendous respect.

Allen is a done deal, Demarcus Walker is very close to it, he has a lot of pressure still to attend UF but feels Bama's staff is significantly better at developing talent at his position.

I have confidence we will land Nkemdiche, and he will be a part of this class a lot sooner than most expect. Bottom line is he is growing tired of the process and he is now heavily involved in carrying around friends to get offers, but has become wary of that too, the most amazing thing I heard about this whole deal tonight is about HC Mickey Conn, who has not swayed him one way or another, but rather attempted to keep him level headed and help him make the best decision for his future.

I was told we still hold a VERY heavy lead for Kamara and that the staff was hoping to reel in a commitment to cool other staffs from fully evaling, they know how special he could be, expect his stock to skyrocket and when he comes back on campus, don't be surprised to see a commitment since the staff will be pushing for one from him.

I asked about Jonathan Cook and was told staff is very aware and he is another expected to blow through the roof soon with offers coming in droves. He will also come for camp, but depending on how the staff feels about other targets, he could get an offer sooner, and it likely wouldn't take him long to make a decision on it.

Staff was so pleased by not just the commitment of Bateman, but by his candor about it and vigor to already start helping out, he calls Foster twice a week and has talked to Kamara, Falkins, Deon, and ArDarius a few times already (he and Foster skyped ). Also interesting note, one other coach extremely high on Bateman was Cal coach Jeff Tedford, in fact he usually has a couple meetings etc with Dilfer a couple times a yr (The 2 are very close) and after his CB's 1st Elite 11, Dilfer told Tedford to put all his chips on the table for him and go all out to get him, the reason? He felt he was the closest thing, if not a clone of Tedford's greatest pupil Aaron Rodgers, even told him he thought Bateman was on par if not better now than when Rodgers arrived at Cal as a JuCo Soph, Tedford told that to anybody that would listen this past weekend. I think we have an elite guy at QB in this class.

All I got :nana:

My guess is that since Pruitt was the guy pushing hard for Herny and with the limited number of spots left, He was asked to choose between Henry and Paige. Paige was a greater need so Rumph's need won out.

Wifey was aggravated as hell as was his wife, but they get along ok I told her beforehand you'll get to know her really well tonight so we can talk fball wink wink

Yeah I really don't want staff to pursue him and after talking tonight, seems like we won't, he told me Henry WANTS to visit more than staff wants him to, we are pretty set in the class with Tenpenny and Tyren and working on Kamara

4-star Tenpenny shines at Combine
Otis Kirk
NORTH LITTLE ROCK-- The 15th Annual FCA Combine was held at North Little Rock High School on Saturday with 100 athletes participating.
Among the participants was North Little Rock 4-star running back Altee Tenpenny. Tenpenny is committed to Alabama, but is keeping the door at least slightly ajar for Arkansas and some other schools.
“I'm still going to take visits,” Tenpenny said. “I'm still going to look around, but I am solid to Alabama.”
Tenpenny attended a practice at Arkansas this spring and got to hang out with running back Knile Davis the majority of the time. Tenpenny talked about some of the turmoil that has gone on at Arkansas recently with the firing of Bobby Petrino and the hiring of John L. Smith to replace him.
“I went down there for the one spring practice and they looked good overall as a team,” Tenpenny said. “They still have (quarterback) Tyler Wilson and Knile Davis there. As far as the coaching staff goes they look great. I haven't had a chance to meet Coach Smith, but I have talked to him on the phone. He seems like a great guy and I just can't wait to get down there and meet him.”
Tenpenny said he wanted to participate in the combine at his school's stadium.
“Today was a great learning experience,” Tenpenny said. “I don't think I did as good as I want to do so I'm just going to go back and work harder in the offseason.”
Tenpenny ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash which was one of the fastest times of the day, but that didn't please him.
“No, I'm not pleased with that,” Tenpenny said. “I just ran a 4.3 and then to come out here and in my eyes run a 4.4 at this point is just as bad as a 4.5.”
A lot of athletes with offers and a high rating by the recruiting services wouldn't participate in a combine, but Tenpenny opted to not only attend but participate in all the tests.
“Just going through this process has helped us remain humble and just give all the glory to God,” Tenpenny said. “Without him, I wouldn't be able to play football.”

That is what I heard about a month that Henry reached out to our staff to see if they were interested and he was flirting with the idea of switching if an option. I heard that Pruiit was really pushing for him but not all on the staff was and the spot was either for Kamara or Henry and that Kamara most on the staff felt was better. It makes sense since our spots are limited but if we could take both I would not mind.

It will be real interesting to see if Henry does visit as planned what happens.

BWB curious if any mention on DBs. Seems to be a position of need for this class and alot of top names still out there uncommited but not sure who we end up with at this point.

I have no idea why we'd want Kamara over Henry. I don't know how many small shifty running backs we have to see fail before we cut it out. Even if he's good, is he better than Jones/Tenpenny? No. And even if we move him to slot, those slot guys are easy to find. Henry at least brings something different to the table. I think he's a take and right now, I think we may like him better. We'll see how it shakes out though

Staff feels confident they will land Maurice Smith and I was told my guy BELIEVES Jonathan Cook will get an offer and will be a part of the class as well. My fear about Langley was right, Bama really impressed him after the visit even surging ahead, but his tune very quickly changed after returning home to be around fam and friends, there will always be certain parts of Ga that regardless of our efforts and the advantages our D has like Saban being the DB coach, the kids will always end up Dawgs. M. Alexander right now is Clemson's to lose, and Hargreaves won't leave the state of Fla. The staff feels cautiously optimistic with Antonio Connor, moreso than Bell, Connor has actually told Pruitt he "was tired of hearing he's an Ole Miss lock since he's at S. Panola" couple that with the fact that Ole Miss has already taken A.Allen from Indiana, things are looking really good for landing Connor.

With Henry, I was told the swing vote went to Coach Burns and he wanted Kamara because of his versatility

I think the staff sees Kamara as an elite athlete Sand, with speed enough to play slot, but also abilities as a RB, Henry might want to switch, but he won't be a RB at Bama IMHO

So Connor is afraid of competition at Ole Miss?
