Luatua at 18, wow.

Just watched a highlight video, and I realize that those only show the good plays, but what really stood out to me was his blocking. Dude likes to hit people and he's a strong one. If we get him I hope we let him play TE. He could be a hell of a LB too though.

I was gonna make a post a while back that if he was 240 as a sophomore, he might end up 260-270 as a Senior. Then I realized that might not be enough to deter him from TE at Bama.

According to Charles Power:

UA offered Lake Charles (La.) Washington Marion Magnet LB Melvin Jones earlier this morning according to a source close to Jones. The 6-foot-3, 245-pound top 150 prospect also has a top five of UA, Texas A&M, TCU, Southern Miss, and Tulane. His father played at Texas A&M.

I agree Mag, to have him as an end of the line TE good at blocking with soft hands and OJ as a vertical threat would be great. Gotta keep OJ and land him 1st though. Then add to that Freitag woot woot

Hell...260 is pretty typical of a TE these days. Gronk, Graham, Davis, Finley, and Gates all go about 250-260.

When I said Senior, I meant high school senior FWIW.

A few of those guys would be tackles or defensive ends if they started college at that size...

It's way, way early but I'd say Humphrey and Scarbrough are locks. We've got as good a shot as anybody for Fournette, McMillan, and Luatua. And we'll be in the mix for 3 or 4 others. So, I'm guessing we wind up with around 4 of the top 25.

The 247 Top 25 intro article has Andrew Brown playing for Oscar Smith but everyone else shows him playing for Indian River. I'm guessing and hoping Oscar Smith is a mistake

New eligibility standards on the way

And the minimum GPA jumps to 2.3.

A survey conducted by the NCAA indicated that of all freshmen football players to enroll at Division I schools last fall, approximately 40 percent would have failed to meet the 2016 requirements

The good news is that it doesn't seem to effect the minimum requirements for enrolling and being on the team. If you don't meet the new standards then you just have to redshirt that first year. Most of our guys are going to redshirt anyway. So it'll probably only effect 1 or 2 players per year.

what? your high school GPA has to be 2.3? hell, that is just gonna lead to more grade changing at the high school level.

Maybe that's what the article meant by stating that when the bar is raised, people will elevate to meet it. Nobody said how they will elevate

Will also be key to see who AJ has the most trust in imo.

Watching AJ this past year and in spring, it appears he likes several of the WRs but has specific types of routes he looks for each in.

Norwood is the smash route guy. Doesn't have great speed but catches the ball well over his shoulder at 15 to 30 yards going into the sideline. Sluggo fade should be a great route for Norwood as well. Norwood would be great for the Dino if he would learn to make his cuts more crisply.

Bell - AJ likes to try to overthrow Bell and watch him run it down. In overthrowing Bell, he also likes to use the throw to pull bell away from the DB to a target area. He jumped Bell's case a little after the int on the 1st play of A-Day because he did not stay inside enough to allow AJ to pull him to the sideline with the throw. Bell made the correction for the rest of the game. Bell will also be great running the Dino when the ball is between the 40's. Bell will also continue to be used in the screen game looking for an outside release.

White - AJ looks for him on deep crossing routes and likes to throw high to him. This will be great in the red zone with White running across the back line of the end zone. The problem with it in the middle of the field is that if he does not catch it or tips it, a deep safety will be waiting for a pick.

C. Jones - Bubble screens and screen set up for an inside release are ideal for Jones. AJ also seems to like him of box routes and drags. I look for them to develop a chemistry on sluggo post routes as the season progresses.

Black appears to be a target AJ will look for in the same route group he watches Jones in.

Cooper looks to be the best fly route guy. He also runs a mid-field fade very well. He and AJ will develop that fade so AJ can lead him to the ball along the sidelines much like what he does with Bell. Bell is better on the left sideline while Cooper looks to be better on the right sideline.

Even back to his HS days, AJ looks better and more comfortable throwing a reciever open to the deep sideline. I hope that Nuss/Groh will be able to build on that to give AJ and Bell/Cooper/White a great touch combo on the backshoulder throws in the red zone.

I remember noting on one of Bell's receptions on A-day (not the flea-flicker) what a good job he did leaving plenty of room between himself and the sideline. AJ made a beautiful throw to Bell's outside away from the defender and Bell made the adjustment toward the sideline to make the catch. The defender (Fulton?) was in great position but there was absolutely no way to defend that throw. If Bell had run the route closer to the sideline it would've either been broken up or been caught out of bounds.

I like Bell's route running. If Duron Carter gets his shite together I'd like him in the red zone and on looooong streaks.

I'm interested into how many different routes Dee Hart and TJ Yeldon may run. Wheel Routes, screen routes, angle routes, delay check down routes, any others I may be missing?
