I have heard by several people, also by 247 as well that the latest on Conner is we are his top out of state school, but I don't care how it is perceived that he might leave state IT IS SOUTH PANOLA, so extremely hard to pull outta that HS, we did it in NoLa with LC and Devall (although Devall was a little different situation) and the biggest miss prospect we have pulled under Saban were D'Albertville's Norwood and that HS is not even close to be considered the OM LOCK that South Panola is FWIW

D'Iberville fwiw and south panola's ole miss pipeline is slightly overrated. We've signed a few from there and a lot of them are OM v MSU battles. Getting LC out of LA is a MUCH bigger pull

Dwayne Rudd was one of the first big time SP guys. Still pulls weight. If we press for Conner we get him IMO and I'm not one to make many predictions

Are you gonna have room on the depth chart for him? He'll have to wait one year minimum, assuming no one out standing at S comes along in the next RC.

Just have to remember that this isn't the same Texas staff that schools are used to recruiting against. They've got proven SEC style recruiters now and the best DB coach in the country.

I think he is the new DB coach at Texas.

A-Day saw Alabama land Spanish Fort athlete Deon Johnson, one of the top class of 2013 prospects in the Yellowhammer State. Spanish Fort head coach Mark Freeman speaks highly Johnson and feels his star player will bring explosiveness and versatility to the Capstone.

“There’s a lot of 4.3 guys out there and there’s a lot of 4.7-4.8 guys who have great hands. What you have with D.J. is he ‘s so fast and has great hands, but you don’t recognize that he’s so strong. He deadlifts right at 500, benches 300, and weighs 180 pounds,” said Freeman. “I don’t know if he’ll become an All-American safety once he gets to Alabama, but in high school football he’s dangerous with the ball in his hands. I think that’s what Alabama liked. He does a great job for us.

“They haven’t talked with us about him possibly playing in the secondary, but the whole thing with D.J. is that he just wants to go to college and play football. If he went to Alabama and they put him in the secondary, he’d be perfectly fine with it. He wants to get on the field and do whatever he can to help the team win. I think they’ll at least give him a chance on offense because he’s real explosive and dynamic with the football.”

Freeman also commends Johnson for his work ethic and leadership.

“D.J. has worked himself into this. During workouts, he’s usually first in line leading the sprints. He does everything you ask him to do and isn’t a selfish person. He knows he might be triple-teamed and not get as many touches in certain games, so there are a lot of intangibles that people don’t see.”

A-Day marked Johnson’s second trip to Tuscaloosa this year and Freeman feels Johnson’s comfort level with the Crimson Tide program and coaches is what ultimately led to the early commitment.

“I haven’t asked him what made him commit to Alabama. My focus is to get him through high school and help him have a chance to go to the next level. I think that’s where he feels at home. He really likes Coach Jeremy Pruitt and he’s met Coach Saban and likes him.

“They invited him to A-Day and he went to junior day at both Auburn and Alabama. He came in there for several days saying, ‘Coach, I love Alabama’ and I told him not to rush things and think about it. When we went to A-Day, he told me that’s where he wants to be as we were going down there. I told him to talk to his family since it’s their decision and they decided that’s what they wanted to do.”

The Top247 prospect still has work to do in the classroom, but Freeman cautions that there is plenty of time for Johnson to make up ground and improve his standing.

“I don’t know- he has work to do and I can’t predict that right now. I think it’s still undecided. There are a lot of factors between now and then that will decide if he makes it. He has a lot of school left. I know if he gets his schoolwork done and goes straight to Alabama then that’s great, but if he has to another direction before Alabama he’ll do that. Either way, he has his mind set on Alabama.”

As a junior, Johnson hauled in 68 receptions for 869 yards and scored 19 touchdowns. He has a grade of 91 from 247Sports and is ranked as the no. 8 prospect in the state of Alabama.

Defensive coordinator Kirby Smart was by Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek today and verbally offered 2014 WR Demarre Kitt. Kitt committed to Georgia at their spring game two weeks ago and visited UA in Februrary with teammate and fellow UGA commit Shaq Wiggins. He was decked out in Georgia gear at the Elite 11 and NFTC, FWIW.

Yes and no. By all accounts he's a phenomenal recruiter, but there were the same concerns when Lance Thompson left and we just kept on rolling, so I think we'll be ok when Kirby leaves too.

So I'm bored at work (what a suprise) and I got to thinking about Alabama's QB recruiting (again, what a suprise) and how we seem to be missing out on all of the big "fish" at the position, again, for the 2013 class.

So, in my boredom, I searched for some highlights on EJ Moss, the 2014 QB from Asheville, Alabama. Now, the only thing I could find was from 2010, his FRESHMAN year. I can't stress enough that the following film highlights his FRESHMAN season playing high school football.

For your viewing pleasure: FRESHMAN footage

All I have to say is "holy shite this kid is good." I really wish I could find the "Sweet Jesus" gif, because it totally applies in this situation.

I would take Moss over every QB in the 2013 class, hands down.

In conclusion, pray we don't frick this up a la Jameis Winston.

FRESHMAN!!
