So Chizik's recruiting tactic is to show slides of how much more wins Auburn has than Alabama. I would like to see that slide.

What was the funniest thing a college coach said to you? “This wasn’t meant to be as insulting as it sounds. When coach Gene Chizik was comparing Auburn and Alabama, he put up a slide that showed they had more wins, more this and that …

Adam Gorney:

Guess we can go ahead and cross Browne off the list too

Even though Cooper Bateman is visiting this week, I think he would have to really be blown away for us to have a real chance.

So...there's Connor Mitch and Riley Ferguson. I think we'd take either of those guys. Mitch Trubisky will probably go to tOSU since Zaire committed to Notre Dame. If we continue to strike out we might offer John O'Korn.

I'm hoping we find a way to flip Brice Ramsey although, admittedly, he seems very solid to UGA.

Alabama football signee Dalvin Tomlinson will undergo surgery after suffering a “significant” knee injury, according to the Henry Daily Herald.

Tomlinson, an AJC Super 11 defensive tackle from Henry County High School, waited until signing day to reveal his college decision, putting on an Alabama baseball cap over runners-up Georgia Tech and UGA.

Tomlinson injured his knee while playing soccer for his high school. He told the Daily Herald’s Brian Paglia that he expects to be fully recovered by the start of his college football season.

“I’ll be over it by the time the season comes around,” Tomlinson told the newspaper. “It was pretty shocking.”

It’s heartbreaking news for Tomlinson, who has had a rough year. His mother died unexpectedly last summer after a longtime illness.

Bama gets top defenders because Saban gets them NFL ready and they go high in the draft. The defensive scheme is such that it makes them standout to the NFL.

Bama's offense not so much. It is run oriented and only requires the QB to be a game manager(not my term, but Saban's and experts). It highlights the running back, OL, ad sometimes receivers. Right or wrong that is the perception. QB's are looking to go where their abilities are highlighted and NC's are second thought. They want to go in the first round too, and Bama can't promote that for the QB position right now.

Maybe Nuss can change that and maybe not because Saban has the reigns firmly in hand. He has just won 2 NC's in 3 years doing it his way. With JPW going undrafted and McElroy going 7th round, playing QB at Bama doesn't look so appealing if the top QB's have NFL on their mind more then NC's. Just my opinion and this is in no way flaming just part of the discussion.

Edit: I will add that AJ has probably got Saban's confidence more then previous QB's. His play in the NC showed a lot of skill, and smarts. Maybe that changes up what Saban allows to take place on offense. We shall see this year.

For some reason, I don't think Homer Smith could turn JPW and McElroy into highly draftable QBs. That's more on their makers,

If we wiff on this any other top 15 qb, just go juco if it comes to that and focus on 2014.

I understand that, but that is all QB's have to look at for your program.

We couldn't get the big ones on our board last year, and it looks like we'll miss out this year.

I think Saban/Bama are capable of recruiting highly touted QB's. AJ and Sims(and Star?) were both considered top tier guys in their respective years. Problem is now, and last year is that any star QB does not want to sit for 2/3 yrs.

Bama has a nat'l championship QB with two years of eligibility remaining and a five star sitting on the bench that will have yrs. of practice exp in the program when he is finally a senior. Why in the hell would a top QB want top walk into that? While loosely following this thread I've been surprised at the belief that Bama would sign a top QB this year, or last year. If they do, the QB needs his head examined.

Excellent points but teams with less success seem to have top QB's sign year after year. Case in point:

USC signs #1QB Barkley in 2009, named starter for 1st game and season. With 3yrs eligibility remaining however USC signs

2010 -Jesse Scroggins
2011 - Max Wittek and Cody Kessler

All pretty highly rated prospects

Are they stupid kids or is it savvy QB recruiting aided by the fact USC sends QB's to NFL like an assembly line?...also all under the scrutiny of a NCAA investigation

I think USC QB's are at the same level as Bama LB's. You can ride the pine and still get the the NFL.

IMO it's a combination of both factors.

We miss on a few guys because they want to play in a system where they can throw 40 times a game and put up video game numbers.

We miss on a few other guys because they want to play first or second year and that's not going to happen right now at Bama barring transfers and/or injury.

We settled for 3 star QBs the last 2 recruiting classes and will probably settle for a 3 star (or two 3 stars) this year too. It's certainly not ideal, but the hope is that one of those guys will perform above his ranking. And with all the other talent on the team, that's enough to compete for championships.
