On #1 WR Robert Foster:

quote:

The Bruins join the likes of Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Virginia and West Virginia in offering the 6-foot-3, 190-pound Foster, who checks in as the country’s No. 11 prospect overall.

247 staffer:

quote:

In my opinion, I think Alabama, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Ohio State are the schools with the best chance of landing Foster.

Has this been posted?

I mainly asked about the early enrollees and position battles. Hope you guys enjoy & Roll Tide!

*Dillon Lee has been very impressive as far as picking up the scheme thus far. Looks very fluid in pass drops. My main beef with him is he struggles getting off blocks at times & that is coming directly from coaches who played against him.

*Taylor fits the mold of a true NG in our defense. CCR has been riding him hard because they expect huge things from him. NG is actually going to be an interesting position battle this spring and into the fall. Ivory looks good at times but must be more consistent every day.

*Black has had some issues with drops in practice thus far but looks to be an advanced route runner for a TF.

*Harrison Jones looks very good catching the football. Must work on holding up at point of attack as a blocker. Smelley had the same problem throughout his career.

*Belue has been very impressive at CB. Tackling will be a big factor for how he leaves spring on the depth chart.

*AJ has taken over this team which is the absolute best thing for them to avoid a 2010 season.

Fowler has really improved as a pass catcher. I did not realize how hard he had worked this off season at catching the football.

*Coach Nuss is so energetic with our guys. He will be a player favorite for sure.

*I have heard really good things about Cody Mandell punting the football. Seems to have possibly worked out a kink in his followthrough.

*Hats off to Phillip Ely for being an absolute leech to Coach Nuss. Phillip is not the most talented but he is as hard a worker as we will find.

*I am intrigued to watch the position battles at both Sam & Jack. Lance will have a good time coaching these young pups!

Did y'all read the Spring Quick Notes thread by Ethan? Didn't know if I should post here or not, but was curious of your thoughts.

ETA: Ok nevermind, Trey's got it up now.

Deion Belue is a new Saban fav player, got on campus and immediately delved into filmof our D schemes

Taylor is surprisingly better than most thought he would be coming from basically no experience the last 2 yrs, will see time playing

Lamichael Fanning is a monster, should've gotten the chance to play last year had he understood playbook better, he & Pagan together with Aussie & Square are gonna be phenomenal

TJ Yeldon is bigger & gaining weight and power faster than ANYONE thought, the new weightroom warrior, taking TRich's spot

***The recruitment of no. 1 prospect Robert Nkemdiche gained even more attention with the franchise prospect intimating that LSU is his top school and that a May 18 commitment could be on the way. While the date isn’t set in stone, it’s evident Nkemdiche is ready to get a commitment behind him. UA remains in good position to land the blue-chipper despite his public comments. Clemson, Ole Miss, and LSU are the primary competition for the Tide here with Clemson being perhaps the biggest threat and playing a darkhorse role at the least.

***On the basketball front, the big remaining target is De Kalb (Miss.) Kemper County Devonta Pollard. The 6-foot-9 five-star has taken a step back from things this week, as he had been playing basketball steadily through the state championship and last week’s Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game with little time to think about recruiting. He doesn’t have much time though, with the spring signing period only a few weeks out and visits on the docket. Pollard has taken official visits to Texas and Missouri on top of visiting UA and Mississippi State throughout the season.

He would like to take a visit to Georgetown and possibly Kentucky before deciding. According to sources, a visit to UA on April 5 has also been discussed and would obviously go a long way in increasing the Tide’s chances of landing the five-star talent. The retirement of Rick Stansbury has clouded things a bit for Pollard and some feel he would already be in the fold for the Bulldogs had they not fallen apart down the stretch. Should he decide to stay close to home, UA becomes a more attractive option given the current uncertainty at Mississippi State.

***The decommitment of Miami (Fla.) Northwestern corner Artie Burns shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Burns’ pledge had grown soft in recent weeks and junior day visits to Florida State and Miami only furthered things. The opportunity to run track (and for a national caliber team in Florida State’s case) and staying in-state became bigger factors with Burns as time progressed. Burns expressed this to other programs as early as two weeks ago and was on watch to withdraw his pledge since.

***With Burns officially decommitted, look for UA to continue to focus on Marietta (Ga.) Kell Brendan Langley, who they currently lead for with Georgia running second. As we’ve touched on in the past, Langley has formed a very close bond with UA defensive coordinator Kirby Smart. Look for Langley to visit Tuscaloosa for a practice during his spring break, which falls on the first week of April. Five-star Tampa (Fla.) Wharton prospect Vernon Hargreaves III, Woodbury (N.J.) athlete Anthony Averett, Sugar Land (Texas) Dulles riser Maurice Smith, and Immokalee (Fla.) four-star MacKensie Alexander are other targets to watch at corner. Miami (Fla.) Archbishop Carroll DB Leroy Clark hasn’t received an offer yet, but may have one on the way with a conversation with Nick Saban potentially coming in the near future.

***Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas defensive lineman Joey Bosa is one of UA’s top targets along the defensive line and has been high on the Tide dating back to his 2011 summer camp experience in Tuscaloosa. Bosa has a current top six (in no order) of Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State, Florida, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The top Sunshine State DL has a tentative visit schedule of Florida (April 7), Wisconsin (April 9), Ohio State (April 12), and Michigan (April 14). Bosa also plans to visit Alabama as soon as possible, without missing school or spring practice. St. Thomas Aquinas prospects rarely commit during the season in an effort to minimize distractions, and this is no different with Bosa. We’re told that he would ideally like to have a decision made before the season and if not, it would come after the season.

***One prospect who is higher on college boards than his ranking would indicate is Lindale (Ga.) Pepperell OL Andy Dodd. Dodd has seen his recruitment take off in the last month or so, recently adding offers from LSU and Florida State last night. Count UA as one of the programs that think highly of Dodd- the interior OL prospect plans to be in Tuscaloosa this weekend and Tide are currently in his current top two with Clemson. It’s also worth noting UA has had success at Pepperell as recently as the 2012 cycle, signing Dakota Ball from the northwest Georgia high school.

***Speaking of the offensive line, don’t rule out the possibility of UA commitment Grant Hill playing tackle in college. Hill has drawn comparisons to Barrett Jones on and off the field and is athletic and smart enough to cross-train at different positions along the line at the next level. Hill was coming off a back injury as a junior and was not only playing at around 80% but was heavier than normal. Since then, he’s trimmed down to the 315 range and is currently immersed in track season where he’s aiming to break the state’s discus record.

***Top 25 DE/OLB Jonathan Allen of Ashburn (Va.) Stone Bridge is another top out of state prospect who will be in Tuscaloosa come April. The visit will likely go a long way for Allen, who is an Alabama native and has been favoring the Tide since receiving an offer. Florida is running second for the potential five-star pass rusher and will host Allen a week prior to his trip to UA. A visit to Oklahoma is also possible at some point. Look for Allen to decide sometime in the summer.

***Another top candidate at the Jack position is Baton Rouge (La.) University High prospect Tim Williams. UA running backs coach Burton Burns has made a sizable impression on Williams(was first major coach to recruit him), who many feel is the best prospect in the state of Louisiana. There are even some rumblings that UA is the leader for Williams despite his public contention that he’s open at this time. The pass-rusher wouldn’t be an easy pull for UA even if that were the case, considering his high school is literally on LSU’s campus. Granted, Williams transferred in prior to his junior season and UA is confident having pulled five-star Landon Collins out of LSU country in the 2012 cycle.

A DL class of Nkemdiche, Bosa, Allen, and Tim Williams would be amazing.
