I've never understood why so many guys don't want to/like to block. Any TE griping about the amount of balls he catches doesn't have the mental toughness to play TE. They need to be getting off on blowing someone up at the point of attack just as well as getting off on a big catch. That is a great TE>
Blame San Diego, Green Bay, and New Orleans post Shockey. Hell, Finley from GB tried to use the fact he was flanked out more than he was at TE to try and get the WR franchise tag.

Some new vids up on TideSports with Howard and Foster.
I'll try to get a recap up in a minute...

Now Calloway, Howard, and McNeil will definitely add new dimensions to our offense by being extremely athletic while playing HB. I don't like the way a poster tried to down play McCall, Dial, and Smelley's roles in the offenses they played in though. If the first trio can't block then they are going to have a hard time playing HB in our system despite being elite recruits. The other four guys were adequate and they were great HBs because of their blocking. It was kinda weird to hear people degrade our past HBs because they want pass first guys at H and Y.

Nice. Can't make those. Hitting Birmingham and Atlanta later in he summer.

I wasn't playing down the roles of any of them in the least, I just called a spade a spade. McCall, Huber, and Dial were used how they should have been used, to effectiveness. They were never elite passcatchers, which didn't matter because they weren't needed to be.
But now Bama is obviously looking to improve the versatility from the position, rather than use them as a FB. If they were coming through the recruiting process again, I doubt they would get many looks from Bama as H-Backs.

I'm also thinking that all these great prospects at H-back might make it tougher for us to take Walker Jones. We're looking at OJ and possibly McNeil in this class. Walker could greyshirt but we're looking at Crosby and Luatua in the next class. Walker could just as easily wind up at LB but we're just as stacked there.

Under McElwain, it was more important for the TE's to block than catch. The TE's were never any kind of deep threat and would catch short passes on well designed plays. CJM never tried to isolate our TE's with miss matches or anything like that. Bottom line is they did much more blocking than catching.
But I'm really hoping that changes. When OJ gets here it would be silly not to. They need to get him matched up on big LB's in space and that kind of stuff. Aside from the Michael Williams fake punt TD, I can't ever think of a TE making a dynamic play down the field.
-Edit: I'm trippin. Colin Peek had a few nice catches and one in the SECCG.

Nick Walker in the 2008 opener against Clemson is all that comes to mind. However, those were more intermediate routes than anything.

Bullet points from Foster's new interview with TideSports:
*Despite being a top player in the country, goes to as many camps as he can to prove himself to any doubters and people's opinions. And above all, to stay humble.
*To stress the point above, he said his knee is a bit "messed up", but he's still there to compete.
*Size 6-2/6-1, 251 Lbs
*Still solid to Bama "You don't have to worry about that"
*Has heard the rumors about flipping to UGA and Auburn, but again says he's solid.
*Was asked about why he went to Auburn HS, didn't really answer the question but he did say it didn't mean he was going to Auburn because he moved there.
*Dee Liner enters the interview
*Told that Liner is telling people he's flipping to Auburn, laughs and says he's not, but say he tells Liner that.
*Said the same thing about Tray Matthews and UGA, tells him what he wants to hears.
* Said that the knee was messed up last year going for an INT.
* Doesn't care, says he's 100%. Will be until he breaks down.
* To Bama fans: "Y'all don't have not worries. Gonna say RT aka Roll Tide for all my Bama fans. And y'all don't have to worry, because I'm still gonna sign(with Bama).

Seriously, I can't figure out what Dabo's doing to get those kids to commit to Clemson. Other than that damn rock and an 80's era NC, WTH is the attraction?

But this is not the place to have the debate.

They just signed another 4 star DE a day or two ago as well.
Tim-I dont think New Englands offense was the problem.

Bullet points from Howard's video interview with TideSports:
*Sporting a Miami Heat hat
*Knows a few people there: Reuben(Foster), Bo Scarbrough, Dee Liner. Looks forward to meeting more players at the event.
*Said Dee Liner tells him to come to Auburn and play together, Howard retorts by asking Liner to come to Bama and they can still play together.
*"Dee isn't having any of that", but talks about his friendship with him, calls him a great guy. Calls him one of his best friends.
*Wants to be the 1st 5* TE since Kyle Rudolph.
*Talks about how he visited Bama for camp 2 weeks ago and affirmed his commitment then. Also said he told coaches that he could still play the TE position(I'm assuming that's based off his own talk of WR).

The offense was the same X's and O's wise but was better before Brady got so full of himself. When Weis was there the offense was a lot more balanced and it wasn't Brady and friends. Now every set piece of the offense is built to compliment him. That isn't good consistently good football to me, But the OC's since Weis left have been basic figureheads because Brady is the offensive head coach and the OC.
