National championship isn't the only barometer for success in college football.

That UF 06 team seemed to run a good bit of trick plays. Man, that SEC title game was WEIRD.

Yep, I heard it too. He also said you're a dumbass, but I got no link.

Sounds like you answered your own question. I'll take Saban's opinion over yours since he has a little more experience than you. Look back at the AU/Bama game tell me the team that bases their offense on gimmicks or not. Oh, which team won.

Saban is doing coach speak in this. If he really believes this, which I highly doubt, he's a frigin idiot. The offense is built around the counter, power, and a few others; the wrinkle is that the QB is in the shotgun. This does hurt us slightly in short yardage situations as the handoff prevents the RB from gaining a full head of steam, Gus has changed this up and at times put us in a traditional set. Other than that the offense isn't drastically different other than its pace.

But not surprising considering Saban is the biggest hypocritical whine-bag coach in the history of football.

That is what one would call putting it mildly.

had to put my waders on before posting cause there is a lot of piss on the ground here from earlier posts.

what's sadder - an offense that is built around gimicks, or your lack of defense that lets said team torch you and have to rely on the offense to bail your arse out and save your season?

Would you consider an onsides kick a trick play? Helped the Saints win the Superbowl.

I seriously doubt Saban said it exactly as you describe it.

He's smarter than that.

I find it incredible that this INCREDIBLY inflammatory and newsworthy "quote" has not been picked up by a single news outlet in the state of Alabama, or the United States.
Was the OP fishing with Saban at his place when he said it? Because there is no friggin' way it was spoken in earshot of any member of the media or a microphone...?

doesn't mean it doesn't work.

It might work the first go 'round but fooling SEC coaching staffs two years in a row is another story. AU's offense might not be just a bunch of trick plays but it was alot of "smoke and mirrors" last year. AU tried to out formation, misdirect and hurry up defenses into mistakes in order to move the ball. The question going into this season was did Mahlzahn run this system because the personel was not in place and would he prefer to line up and out play the other side, or is "trickery" all he knows. If it is effective (and at times it was very effective), there is nothing wrong with last years offensive strategy. I personally would rather see my team out execute than decieve. As I said earlier the element of suprise is gone now. Time for Auburn to man up,line up and out execute the other team because people arnt going to be fooled by stuff like an ineligible tackle split out wide, and other such foolery this year.

you need a package that can come in and just pound the ball at the defense and we just don't/didn't have that. If only we had a solid offensive line and a stud/powerful back who could....
