so far no one has been able to make a credible link between patrick peterson and lyles
the allegation (from a former A&M coach) was that lyles claimed he could deliver him somehow (for the right price) but lyles had denied that and PP denies having any substantial relationship with Lyles. It would therefore not take proof of payment or asking for payment for LSU/PP to look bad from a public relations standpoint. All it would take is demonstration of a substantial relationship (between PP and Lyles) to raise questions. Something like a lot of personal phone calls between the two might be enough IMO to make PP look like a liar (call his categorical denials into question).
As it is PP's denials have been so strong and so categorical I feel reassured.
At some level I find it weird that people are talking about the amount of money that Lyles was paid in the terms they are. Oregon does appear to have overpaid (compared to the going rate) but even 25K is small potatoes compared to what assistant coaches make. And I doubt most adults would be willing to work most of the year (including traveling all over the place) for a salary that appears to be well under 50K annually.
I mean we see pictures pop up on facebook or wherever where recruits (ahem Auburn) are holding stacks of cash that look like 10K, 20K or more... and if those are real payouts that ends up being a lot more than what Lyles was apparently getting (esp since Lyles had to travel etc)
I wonder if Lyles viewed himself as using this time to associate himself with high school/college kids - with the ambition of eventually being a NFL agent or some-such? I dunno - probably the same thing with Nelson I guess. Unless there is a lot of money under the surface it seems like a lot of struggling to make a lower middle class or lower class salary.

I could see the 10 story being that the entire West is being put on probation except for Ole Miss giving them an automatic berth to Atlanta.
Don't get the Bears' hopes up. That's the only way they'll ever get there.

If you post there, you will be laughed at and ridiculed when you post in non-ATPB threads. You'll get this a lot too.

Meh, the WIllie Lyles stuff doesn't bother me so far. Paying $6k to a (at the time) legitimate recruiting source, and having documentation of what was provided is not a big deal.
From everything I know, LSU has covered it's tracks pretty well, and made an attempt to keep things documented properly regarding Lyles, unlike Oregon.
I think you guys will be OK.

I'm not too worried about Lyles/LSU ... Robinson hinted in his Oregon/Lyles story that Oregon did things much differently than LSU in regards to LSU, so it would be strange for Robinson to backtrack and hammer LSU for their relationship with Lyles.
All that said, regardless I don't think the Lyles-LSU story if it's similar to the Lyles-Oregon story mustering a "10."
The only way a LSU story could be a 10 if they actually found a paper trail with PP getting paid the alleged $80k.
The story is either going to be about Auburn or a slam-all piece about Auburn/LSU/Bama and their relationships with street agents.
