Also, yes, it is "remotely close" between basketball and baseball at Vandy, Arkansas, and MSU.
Definitely not this year or the next few years for MSU.
Vandy won't be this year either, or Arkansas.
Arkansas cares plenty about basketball and will average 14K+ per game with an NIT team sure, but we'll also be #1-#2 in the nation in attendance for baseball at 8-9K+ per game average with many series having 11K a game so it's still pretty close given the disparity nationally.
If it wasn't for Mizzou drawing 1K a game in baseball and 12K or whatever in basketball, with how down the SEC is in hoops, very likely baseball could have outdrawn basketball this year.
UGA is a pretty decently big baseball school, right there with its basketball program if not above.
Sucks that you can't get into it for your own pleasure, it is major in this conference on par with basketball and above it at a lot of the schools mentioned. As a Florida fan I understand it though, between basketball and football, baseball really has no place there, you have a pretty terrible facility and even with your good teams the last few years don't draw squat and that prevents it from expanding at UF so I'd guess most UF fans are like you and don't care for baseball.
If you were a fan of a team that is a Top 10 or so program for many years drawing 10,000 fans for weekend games in minor league type stadiums with fantastic atmosphere's you'd have a different tune I bet but impossible to say.
The most fun all year on the SECRant is baseball season, and many would agree.

Basically. These frickers start getting scouted in high school. Use the farm system to prepare you for the MLB. Don't waste 4 years of college to get you ready for the minors. And if baseball doesn't work out, you can always go back to college and be a quarterback.

This x 100. All of the best football players in the world who are 18-20 years old are playing college football. A good number of the best basketball players in the world from that age group are playing college basketball. For baseball, almost all of the best 18-20 year old baseball players in the world are playing minor league baseball. You're going to see a lot more talent on the field watching the Montgomery Biscuits play than the Auburn Tigers. The Birmingham Barons are significantly better than the Alabama Crimson Tide at baseball. If you want to see the best young talent, you won't get it watching college baseball.
What you do get is a group of guys playing a sport solely because they love that sport. It's an honest and true sport.
I love minor league baseball as well though. I get more enjoyment out of watching college ball and minor league ball than I do watching the MLB.

That is simply not true.
With the new MLB Draft salary caps you see more and more players go play college ball than you did just a couple of years ago.
Look at Mark Appel coming back, hell Arkansas' ace just 2 years ago Drew Smyly went from Arkansas ace to 5th starter for the Detroit Tigers last year with no minor league stop at all and he wasn't even a top pitcher nationally.
Ryne Stanek could do the same thing, as could many pitchers. The best players in college are in the pro's within just a few years if not immediately depending on the drafting teams needs/openings.
College baseball has plenty of talent, moreso now than ever before.
Of the Top 10 in the MLB Draft last year 5 of the 10 were College players, 4 were HS players, 1 was from Puerto Rico.

frick no. The quality of college basketball has been piss poor for the last 15 years or so with all of the kids jumping to the NBA as soon as they have the chance. You know college basketball is in bad shape when Butler is playing in back to back national championship games and the fourth best team from the CAA is making final four appearances. I wouldn't trade a college football national championship for ten final four appearances.

Out of the top 50 prospects in Baseball America's top 100 list, only nine played college baseball. If that number doesn't say it all, I don't know what does.

Well no shite, those are the rules.
You can't skip college regardless of how good you are in any of the sports you just mentioned.
The only fair comparison would be to take college basketball/NBA when you could go straight from HS to the NBA, then I'd bet you are pretty damn even with College Baseball/Minors out of HS.

LSU has 6 Baseball. I would love to see a basketball one year....
This for me.
While I completely missed the first 2. First college baseball game ever to watch was the Warren Morris game. Don't remember too much about the next too. Was back in LA for 09.
I have seen baseball. I want to see basketball. 06 was like a tease.(Doesn't help I have ties to Memphis and VCU too)

If your final is televised world wide and the other is on ESPN 2 the answer is obvious. When schools like UC Davis and Stony Brook are powerhouses and they use metal bats it is never a good sign.

Yep. Those rocket launchers they use for baseball bats can make any average hitter look like Hank Aaron. When I was 11 years old I was cranking home runs I had no business hitting. It was fun though........

Anyone saying baseball is fricking retarded
Seeing as how that may be true for the most part, it's not a fair assumption.

There are far fewer minor league clubs, and levels, today than there were in the 70s and 80s due to college ball filling that void. Former pro players and coaches being hired to lead these programs helped tremendously. The aluminum bats need to go but these are really good athletes. Danny Ainge couldn't make it baseball but he did quite well in the NBA.
