I would wager a substantial amount that your AD has zero interest in getting rid of the permanent opponent. It’s usually a lot harder to make a bowl when you’re playing Alabama, Auburn, or LSU instead of Mississippi State.
For the same reason, no way any of the historical bottom half of the league would actually want more conference games.

Why do you think there is no balance?
There are 3 Big 6 members on each side. Sure, Tennessee blows now but there will eventually be a downturn for Bama/LSU/Auburn

The Roommate Switch makes the most sense and eliminates 95% of the complaints over divisions.
It would be a bold move but one I bet would be quickly copied.

The way that the big 10 does it is Indiana and Purdue keeps each

Let Aub-UGA-UTenn-Ala have permanent opponents and everyone else rotate. It is permanent opponents that screw up the damned schedule.
10 SEC games will NEVER be approved by the conference. Maybe we can get 9 in 5-10 years.
What we CAN do is require each school to only schedule FBS teams.

if you moved Auburn to the west keeping Bama and LSU would be more important to the fan base than Miss St. 10 game schedule is crazy, at 8 games Auburn already has the toughest schedule why make it harder?
