Would LSU still be a bottom dweller had Saban not been hired?

The hiring of Saban at LSU stopped the decline from the previous mediocrity LSU had enjoyed for their programs existence to be a SEC-West bottom dweller for the better part of the 90s.
The initial decline was caused by Bill Arnsparger using the LSU HC job as a stepping stone to become Florida's AD where he quickly assembled the foundation that led to Florida rising from bottom dweller status to rivaling Alabama for SEC supremacy.
Meanwhile, Arnsparger's replacement Mike Archer ended his four year's as LSU HC with a winning % of 59% to be replaced by Curly Hallman who won just 36% of the games played in his four years as HC. The decline was so real, LSU was more than content with a coach winning 57% of the games as evidence of DiNardo being giving 5 years as HC.
Meanwhile Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, and even Ms. State are playing in ATL for the SEC Championship while LSU is sitting at home.
Assuming DiNardo was not given a 6th year and Saban was not hired, would LSU have ever managed to leave Ole Miss from the kiddie table and join the big boys at the dinner table?

They are a bottom dweller as it is. They could finish 5th in the West this year if Ole Miss and A&M have surprise years.
Really all they needed was an above average coach though. DN left a shite load of talent for Saban.

They have such an advantageous position for recruiting that it's hard to say they would never have gotten to a solid level. I think Saban was a huge factor in them becoming a national brand but they would have gotten there without him. They have a very similar history to Auburn and are in a better recruiting position, so I have to think they would have eventually been just fine.

The 90's were absolutely the worst period of LSU football. Thank God, Bertman led LSU baseball to 5 National Titles during that period.

ULaLa is responsible for Ole Miss' first Omaha appearance in over 40 years.

They would have eventually hired the right adminstration, which would have eventually hired the right coaches, so no. They have too many recruiting resources and fan support to be the sleeping giant they were forever. Similar to what's going on at A&M now. Similar to what happened to Florida.

I think I just heard another team score another touchdown on Arkansas.
Nevermind, that was the sound of the cleaning lady shining up the Golden Boot.

Maybe, maybe not.
All I know is they've made 2 great hires in Saban and Miles, and things have worked out nicely.

They had to have Saban. No other coach could have done it down there. Miles is always a couple of plays away from 1 or 2 above .500

With Arkansas, Ole Miss, and State in our division, we will never have to worry about being the bottom dweller.

Well that's just completely untrue. Dinardo started bringing back the top recruits. Everyone acts like Saban was some savior to the program. Yea, he's a fantastic coach and idk if we would have won the natty in 03 without him but the amount of talent in Louisiana even a mediocre coach could win a lot here. Curly Hallman just royally fricked us over for the 90s steering recruits away.

Would Arkansas still be a top 15 team if Jeff Long had the balls to use that new revenue to make the Harley disappear? Yeah, probably.
Good thing he's a puss.
