That would be an extra week of rest, and not have to play another physical game. Would AU and Bama then be in the playoffs?

The fact this is even a possibility is what's wrong with the current playoff system.

Depends on who wins the Ohio State vs Wisconsin game and who wins the SEC championship game. If Auburn and Ohio State were to win Bama might be able to slip in as #4. Precedent was already set for this last year. Lot of football left to play though.

It isn’t a possibility. It already happened last year.

Miss St game would indicate you could at least use some better LBs

Bama doesn't get in if they lose to Auburn. The committee did this almost exact scenario last year with OSU and it produced a dud in the first round.

They won't be fooled again.

I disagree. The committee said they will consider injuries.

They also said they would place strong emphasis on conference championships.

But hello, 2016 OSU. Damn you look good.

They say what they want, then do what drives ratings.

And morons want the playoff to expand. If it were an 8 team playoff (or more) teams would be resting starters in rivalry games and stuff.

It does need to expand.

5 conf champs and 3 at large.

First round is played at the home of top 4 teams. That would prevent teams from resting.

Uhm, nope. Holcutt has repeatedly stated that conference championship games are

1) Another data point on the resume.

2) One of several factors used to rank teams when their is very lttle separation between them.
