Only a few States cater to OOS

Arkansas used to offer full waiver of OOS vs In state tution costs if you met certain gpa and act/sat requirements and lived in a bordering state (Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, & Missouri.) This has resulted in a ton of kids from the St. Louis, Memphis, Tulsa, Dallas,& KC metro areas coming to the school as all those metro areas are within a 2 to 5 hour drive of Fayetteville. Making it possible to go home on a Friday after class if you want to. Now they have the same thing but on a tiered 70%, 80%, & 90% waiver of out of state fees. It's immensely helped the university grow. It's around 38% OOS rn.

Again, where did you go? I spent 8 years there and this couldn't be further from the truth. There's a huge Greek scene and a large black population. It's really a stereotypical mid-size Southern city with a college crowd.

To be fair, with the entire trip there was also some time spent in Charleston...so maybe im lumping some of that experience in with my time in SC as far as night life? The entire trip was kind of a blur.

But im 100% sure the tailgating scene was overall extremely stuck up, snobby, and uninviting attitudes. Hell, even LSU fans were more inviting tailgating/pregame party wise.

One thing I forgot to mention that was different than every other tailgate atmosphere was at South Carolina it's a cocktail party. All other tailgating I've done everywhere, NFL as well....people drink BEER. South Carolina it looked to me like 90% liquor/mixed drinks and maybe 10% beer. I actually thought that was kind of cool.

Way too large OOS student population. Like I said, NC and CA capped OOS student enrollment when they realized that too many OOS students were taking advantage of the quality of the schools and were blocking opportunities for their citizens. Geographical waivers is a not a bad thing, because the likelihood that they will contribute to that state after graduation is higher. But bigger is not always better.

I disagree. Arkansas is too small of a state with not nearly enough opportunities for even the in-state students. So many Arkansas graduates live in those metro areas and they were losing out on legacy kids due to OOS tuition costs. The state is going to suffer brain drain no matter what, there is just no where near enough jobs. The vast majority of jobs at the job fairs are for the surrounding metro areas I listed.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones, I have been to every SEC stadium and really haven’t had a bad experience. My least favorite in football was Vandy. It was so boring

Worst experience was UGA. I’ve been twice and been barked at many times at during both trips. They are a weird bunch of assholes.

Beating them was fun, watching them walk back with their tails between their legs

Was in a brawl in the stands at MSU in 2007 with Dawg college idiots but the MSU crowd basically had our back. The worst was EASILY Florida. It felt malevolent. I respected their noise level for sure. The best was Bama and Ole Miss back in the 80’s when there was a more genteel feel . I always enjoyed those trips and the neutral site Jackson games.

Like I said Geographical or Legacy waivers are fine. But what good is it to attract kids from CA, NY or FL for UA? Those kids aren’t going to help Ark after they graduate. Following the University of Phoenix model doesn’t work for a public non-profit university.

I've been to Auburn and LSU a few times and Athens, Knoxville, Gainesville, and Nashville once.

Auburn - Dealt with a few younger Auburn fans talking trash and getting into Alabama fan's faces but overall I have to admit Auburn fans were nice/good. Helped that I have a lot of close Aubjrn friends who I tailgated with at Iron Bowls in Auburn. And as much as I hate to admit it Jordan Hare is loud as frick during an Iron Bowl.

LSU - No issues at all with LSU fans in Baton Rouge. Got some Tiger baits but all good natured. I've always found it a little odd how almost every LSU tailgate no matter how old the crowd seems to have rap/hip hop music blaring. Nothing wrong just a little odd. Having said that, the gameday/tailgating scene and overall atmosphere is fun and great overall. Trash talking aside, LSU fans are so damn carefree and hospitable with their food and drink it's hard not to have a good time there.

Georgia - Went with fraternity brothers to Bama/UGA game in Athens while in college and stayed with one of his high school buddies who went to Georgia at the time. Athens is a great college town. Did more bar hopping than tailgating pre game so didn't get a good feel for tailgating. Fans were ok I guess.

Gainesville - Arrived from Jacksonville just long enough to have a beer or two at the Purple Porpoise. Tailgating scene seemed very meh. Lots and lots of jorts too...lol. Was very pleasantly surprised with the entire stadium experience however. This was the 1999 40-39 Bama upset game and had heard horror stories leading up to the game. Was completely surrounded by Florida fans but didn't have the first problem. In fact, the female Florida fan next to me and her husband my have been the nicest opposing fans I've ever met in an opposing stadium. The Swamp when Florida is good has an incredible atmosphere too. Stadium that day was loud as frick.

Knoxville - Went to Bama/UT game with several fraternity brothers while in college when Peyton Manning outlasted Freddie Kitchens. Great atmosphere in Neyland Stadium although the cramped seating and cramped concourses needed work. Went to fellow fraternity house on campus thr night before. Everyone was friendly and UT fans on game day were fine.

Have been on Arky campus in Fayetteville just passing through. Campus was ok. Football stadium and especially Bud Walton and baseball stadium were really nice. Would like to make it up for a football game. That general area of Northwest Arkansas is quite pretty with the mountains, etc.

Texas A&M and Kentucky - An Alabama vs A&M football game is one of my few remaining bucket list SEC gameday experiences. Have heard good things. Same thing but to a lesser degree with Kentucky. Have heard Lexington and the surrounding area are quite lovely.

I echo the earlier Bama fan looking forward to OOC road games coming up at Texas, Wisconsin, and Notre Dame. I plan on making all three trips regardless of whether or not I have tickets in hand.

Nope. Not many people saw because he yelled at us as we were walking by to get our attention. It's not like he started playing with himself or anything, just grabbed it and said his one liner that he thought was hilarious and zipped it back up

2005, 2007 and 2011 in Tuscacrappa when grown adult males crawling in tailgate cages wearing hot dog outfits spewed endless Katrina insults at us. Esp. 2005 and 2007. 2011 they were somewhat civilized.....

These are the stories that crack me up. A guy, over 50 yards away, pulled out his penis to yell at you? It’s either hilarious that you zeroed in on a little wiener from over 50 yards away, or you just made it up.

If you think I came on here to make up a story about seeing a dick you're either an idiot or seriously overestimating the quality fans you think there are that come to BR for games. Im not saying all LSU fans are hillbillies, but make room for the possibility that you at least have one pos that would pull such a stunt

for NY? to gain a presence on Wall Street.
Im from NC went to USC and moved to NY, our presence 6 years ago when I moved here/outta school was so small.
It's much larger now, even to where the Moore School of Business does yearly trips here with students and talks to various IBs (goldman, JPM, Citi, Credit Suisse etc). That WAS not a thing when I was in school.
Are we every going to catch the Ivys here? no probably not. but to make a huge dent and give our business school a much more national name is HUGE imo.

And what do you mean, kids aren't going to help after they graduate?
they start making money and Donate to it every year.
I do that now. As do most alums I know that work here (even the NorthEastern ones)

We're 60% in-state, but the largest number of out-of-state students we have come from NC (mainly Charlotte and the Triangle) and GA (Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah).

I don't think it's a matter of Yankees.
Sure more yankees are going to USC, but i think it's also the southern culture is getting smaller.
I made a thread about it, whatever happened to the word yall? even among my friends and I (from GA, SC and NC) more and more using "you guys"
interviewed a kid the other day, born and raised in SC, goes to Princeton, had 0 accent.

oxen fjord, Mississippi, some 65 year old man tried to fight me then face planted. I felt sad for him. OM fans ate way to many benzos and pain pills combined with whiskey that day to numb their pitiful existence. They are a sad bunch.

I was at that Starkville game in 2007. Rained that night and it was a Thursday night game. 45-0 as I recall.

tigerbait is fine but when you creep up on someone and do it you are drastically increasing your chance to get shot or punched. Don't be creeping on no mofos specially if they from Jackson or Memphis. We know we are in one of the most dangerous cities inthe country and we are from one. Easy way to get shot is creep up on someone and yell in their face.
