The only thing wrong with your post was that the Jabar Gaffney "dropped TD" game was the next year. That year, UF beat UT 23-21 in Gainesville. I agree that UT was the most talented team but UT had a problem that year called Phil Fulmer/first year without Cutcliffe.

Tossup between '99 Bama and '01 LSU. At least we never got pummeled at home like LSU did against Florida that year. And '99 Bama were infinitely better on defense. '01 LSU ranked 108th against the pass and 75th overall in total yardage allowed. They were a pretty mediocre team carried by the heroics of Rohan Davey and Josh Reed that year.

LSU didn't lose to La Tech at home though in 2001 like we did in 1999. Although as an earlier poster stated, we did beat Florida and Spurrier twice in 1999. Once was in Gainesville, first home game they lost in like 8 years or something, and the second time in the SECCG we blew them out.

Your ONE is a huge scoreboard over Arkansas' zero. Huge. Congrats on following that up with recent, or any, success. We all bow to Aubie.

You can't multiply any number by 0 to get to one bitch, so it's a major difference. You hogs definitely fricking need to be on your knees when we're comparing Auburn and Arkansas. It's about damn time you realize that you guys are Auburn's bitch.

Honestly, I was just messing dude. No need to shite your pants over a joke.

It's so weird you posted this because I was thiking this exact same thing after a Mike Dubose quote the other day from his media days.

Dubose had a quote saying that the 1999 team made up of the likes of Shaun, Samuels, and Corn Griffin won in spite of him.

I would agree that this is probably the worst champion since the start of the SECCG. Although, the LSU team in 2001 was pretty lucky.

1999 was my first year in Tuscaloosa. If I had a gun and saw Mike Dubose after that loss to La. Tech I would probably be on death row right now.

The SEC West has never been as weak as it was in 1999.
5-6 Auburn team, a 3-8 LSU team, an 8-4 Arkansas, an 8-4 Ole Miss team, and a 10-2 Mississippi State
Couldn't one use those numbers to show parity throughout the league; hence, one of the strongest years?

If it was one of our strongest years, like I'm feeling this one will be, all of the SECW teams would have better records. I'm thinking all 6 SECW teams this year get to a bowl game, and possibly all have 7+ wins.

This...Bama should've never lost to La Tech but they bounced back and defeated Spurrier twice and lost to a great UM team led by Tom Brady at the end.

I disagree with the OP. Our coach was a bumbling idiot but we had talent and won games in spite of him.

I don't see how 1999 Alabama is as talented as you say it was. The Alabama teams of 1997 and 1998 went a combined 13-14. They showed no marked improvement between '97 and '98 despite the winning record in 1998. Alexander, Samuels, and Griffin won us the SEC title in '99.

Alabama was physically dominated by a mediocre LSU team and had to rely on a miraculous goal line stand to win as time expired.

LSU should have had 3 plays to the endzone, but Josh Booty, rather than throw the ball to an open receiver, thought it best to try to run it in himself. He didn't make it and was stopped short. Time ran out with only one play (although there was an injury on the field--the officials didn't stop the clock).

There were leaders on that team. Alexander and Samuels led the charge and refused to let this team fail after the indespicable loss to La Tech. We had a great OL (can't remember names except Samuels). Freddie Milons was a playmaker, as was Antonio Carter. Andrew Zow got better as the year went on as well. We also had a good D that year.

I agree that their leadership was huge and them leaving costed us to go in the tank in 2000.

First part was especially sad - LSU was supposed to be good in 98 but Tepper and Booty were busy torpedoing the new magic

And came up against a 97 Nebraska team that could have beaten EVERYONE in the SEC by 40 points

Ah the Mike Dubose years, it would be fair to say that Bama missed out on an nc or 2 b/c we had this guy at the helm.
