They may win the east, but they will lose two more regular season games every year as long as Butch is coach.

He is a good recruiter, but struggles at coaching up and making his players better. Pinkel was not a good recruiter, but was great at making his players better. Saban and staff are good at both.

I think they've assembled talent, and they are my favorite SEC East team, but Butch is a horrible game day coach. They've lost every big game they've been in under Butch.

Maybe, they are trending upward but i think they are going to lose a lot after this season so the window is closing. Here is how they have finished sine the last time they went to the SEC Champ game in 2007:

2008 - 5th 3-5
2009 - 3rd 4-4
2010 - 4th 3-5
2011 - 6th 1-7
2012 - 6th 1-7
2013 - 6th 2-6
2014 - 4th 3-5
2015 - 2nd 5-3

I think we only have 10 SR's or so on the roster and will certainly lose Kamara, Hurd and Barnett early but 2017 will be a very good Volunteer squad as well.

The talent level is not dropping off like many here think it is after this year.

Projected 2 deep players we likely won't have in 2017 that we will this fall.

QB - Josh Dobbs (3 very talented replacements waiting).

RBs - Jalen Hurd
- Alvin Kamara (Kelly is supposed to be very good, but will need a couple top end recruits here this Feb)

2nd String TE - Jason Croom (Wolf could go pro but unlikely.)

OL - Dylan Wiesman - Our 6th man OL (OL will be stacked in 2017 with all starters returning)

DE - Latroy Lewis - 2nd STring DE (Stacked here even with Barnett leaving)

DE - Derek Barnett - Big loss but we have great depth here moving forward

DE - Corey Vereeen - Another big Loss

LB - Jaylen Reeves Maybin - Will be a big loss but we are 3 deep at LB

CB - Cam Sutton - We are stacked at CB but Sutton will be a big loss

NB - Malik Foreman - He's solid but may get replaced this season.

That isn't too much talent to lose out of your entire two deep.

2017 Vols will be another National Title contender with solid QB play.

Your strength is running the ball. You ran for 2,900 yards last year and your top 3 rushers accounted for about 2.650 and they will probably be gone after this year. So I would say that is a concern. Not that you won't have talent there, but it may not be a strength in 2017.

I love hearing how incorrect this assumption is.

Losing the last few Dooley recruits and year 1 recruits (Butchs' worst class in his tenure) under Butch where he had a month and a half to throw a class together are really going to kill UT going forward.

It's almost like he hasn't recruited any top classes to pass the torch onto after next season.

Oh, wait...

We will lose rushing productivity yes, but your post assumed that we will have some big "drop off" in talent and that a window is closing.

I think my post shows that the window is actually just opening and should stay open for a while barring anything major happening.

Jarrett Guarantano is going to be a star in Knoxville. It would be nice to get a decent WR coach to go with the talent he will have at WR.

I think UT has ran the ball because it is the strength right now, the offense will be adjusted to where the talent is.

Your post only showed one RB who was a freshman last year and ran for a total of 165 yards on 40 carries in mop up duty. It will be a huge drop off and is easy to see. I'm not saying the passing game won't be better under a different QB or that your rushing attack will be terrible, but you were 2nd in the conference rushing the ball at 223 yards per game, you are gonna have a big drop off from 2016 to 2017. It would be fairly shocking if it did not occur.

And I am also assuming Kamara turns pro, which would help if he didn't. And Hurd could stay as well but I doubt either of them do.

Surprisingly, most mobile homes belonged to South Carolina as of 2013 (couldn't find more recent stats).

LINK

Alabama - Most strokes
Arkansas - Worst credit score
Florida - Most identity theft
Georgia - "Most sickly" (per influenza diagnosis)
Kentucky - Most cancer deaths
Louisiana - Most cases of gonorrhea
Mississippi - Highest rate of obesity
Missouri - Bankruptcy
South Carolina - Most mobile homes
Tennessee - Corruption
Texas - Lowest high school graduation

Seems a little high on the carries, but I'll take your word for it. Even so, the kid can play. Signed a 4* in Feb. Jones has plenty of high caliber running backs on the recruiting board. Will there be a drop off, probably. Are we going to go from 223 ypg to 123 ypg? Probably not. Plus the passing game will definitely improve.

Yes I am serious.

2016 is the most talented TN roster since probably 2003 or 2004.

2017 will be more talented than 2016.

Will it be as good of a rushing team? No, but that doesn't mean any window is closing.
