What was their beef with Lawson I can’t remember

Tennessee isn't the only program in this boat.
USC...the Trojans are in a mess right now. Thousands of us alumni are worried that it's over for our storied tradition.
Nebraska...they're in a rut they may never come out of.
Texas...I'm not convinced they're back, yet. OU and A&M's recruiting is beating back the Longhorns and they've been dull city for over 10 years now.
Florida State...they're cutting back...stadium's on the decrease seats=decrease in revenues, etc. Fans are staying away and losing interest,
Miami...they'll never be what they once were. Their athletic dept is losing money.
Penn State...their elite status is gone. They've lost their mojo.
Even the most glorious name in college football may not ever fully return to their ways of dominance: Notre Dame.
College football has changed a lot and most of it not for the better, imo.

It matters because he made the point. Vols have the 90’s and Neyland. That’s it.
This is factually wrong.

When I look at Tennessee's overall record I don't think elite, except for Neyland's years which were many moons ago.
So can they become respectable again should be the question.
Sure they can.8 to 10 win seasons should be attainable in cycles like many other teams in the conference.

So what other decades were the vols an elite program? Not the 60’s,70’s,80’s,00’s, or 10’s.

You were saying it was factually wrong. Point out where

Yes they will be elite again. Probably sooner than later.

I think they will have an elite season or couple of seasons. I don't think they'll ever get back to the mid to late 90s and early 00s. Although, that is more about me not thinking ANY team will do that again. Yes, I know Saban's Bama has and Dabo's Clemson look prepped for it, but I think CFB is going away from the dynasty.

djsdawg, I’m a Tennessee fan and I agree with you. We’ve had decades in which we had some very good/great teams, but there were also some average years during that same period. Nothing I would call elite. Bama is on an incredible run, but they’ve experienced a rough stretch just like Clemson, LSU, Florida, and Georgia have.
What does the future hold for UT? Who knows, but I’m cautiously optimistic we’re headed in the right direction.

The players UT had in the 90's are the exact same players Clemson has now. Clemson is dominating recruiting in NC, SC, VA
Ummmmmm, no they're not.
Clemson is getting great players out of Georgia, Alabama and Louisiana.

I mean, all this talk about how UT was elite in the 90's...they won 1 title. And that was after a miracle against Arkansas. That's not really elite. They beat the shite out of us for a decade but they couldn't ever beat Florida.

No they suck. And I'm glad we get to play them every year for a beat down. I hate the Volturds and they deserve what they get.

Rut roh !
Even with Tennessee sucking, I still hate them bastards.

Made this comment several times, but it never draws any comments.
This is not the recruiting situation of even 15 years ago, let alone of the pre-2000 period.
Tennessee, at least Middle Tennessee has had a lot of population growth.
That one segment of the state is equivalent to the whole state of Alabama right now in putting out Div I prospects and still growing rapidly - faster than Alabama.
They aren't much behind Louisiana - and again still growing faster than Lousiana.
Middle Tennessee isn't Georgia or Florida or Texas, and probably never will be that good. But at this point their natural recruiting ground, the area where they have a built-in advantage recruiting kids is better than any SEC school not one of the four I mentioned. You can make the case LSU is still better off, but that's not gonna last.
Do want to say, and I've said it several times in the past. Assuming Vanderbilt actually WANTED to, they are one of the schools from across the country that could leverage academics to implement Stanford's formula.
There isn't room for more than three or four of those nationally however (and you kind of would have to recruit nationally for it to work). And there are more schools than Vandy that could also pull that off, like Georgia Tech or even Duke.

Thanks for the reasonable reply. But I can't really see why everyone can't see that the same holds true for Tennessee. Unless they're too young to remember how great we have been , that is.

It will take Nick Sabin to do it. I'll say no!

It is so embarrassing how LSU obsessed you are Devry. We get it, you tried to get into LSU but you weren’t accepted. Move on and stop using the Bama name. No true Alabama fan or alum cares as much about LSU as you do.
