So, why should Florida consider South Carolina a rival now? Why should Gator fans look at South Carolina as anything more than just another conference game in November? Why, now, is the South Carolina game an important one for Florida to take seriously?

The answer: Will Muschamp.

quote:

Florida hasn’t finished with a top-10 recruiting class nationally since Muschamp was fired

quote:

On average, the Gators finished ranked 105th nationally in total offense under Muschamp from 2011-2014. One hundred and five. Say it out loud.

Amazingly, that is still better than the Gators total offense under Muschamp’s successor Jim McElwain. Under McElwain, Florida finished with an average rank of 112th in total offense nationally from 2015-2017.

This article is trying to hard, I hope Will is successful he just wasn’t ready for the UF gig. I don’t really have any ill will towards him, nor do I consider USC a rival now.

they shouldn't, because you can't just get to pick and choose schools willy nilly to be rivals with. Either you're rivals or you aren't.

Defense wins championships

and recruiting is key for building a long term winner

CWM had both of those on track

Florida screwed up getting rid of him

You know those sayings “the grass isn’t always greener on the other side,” or “be careful what you wish for?” Perhaps that is what Gator fans think of now in regards to Muschamp.

I know a lot of gator fans, I had to stop reading after this. Not one thinks this about Muschamp.

Will still hasn't learned much with regard to his offense. USC sucks on offense.

For such a smart guy, it amazes me how long it's taking him to figure this out. You'd think that during the 2013 season at UF, the alarms would have gone off. But he just pissed away game after game. In 2012, if he'd had an offense that was even remotely respectable he would have been in the national title game.

Eh. And I'd argue that a school is technically "rivals" with every team in their division.

The definition of rival is : 1. a person or thing competing with another for the same objective or for superiority in the same field of activity.

So because you play them every year, and you're competing for the same objective (division championship) then like it or not, you're rivals. One team might have a better chance and reaching the objective or a better success rate against the other, but that doesn't mean they aren't "rivals".

We just landed a commitment today that had previously said the Gators were his favorite.

Isaiah Walker out of Miami. Class of 2020.

A UF coach will never be completely accepted at UF if they don’t put Scoring points above all else. It’s silly but Spurrier spoiled this fan base. Nobody misses the defensive slugfest here. Will is a good football coach he just doesn’t fit UF. There’s nothing wrong with that.

Thats nice and all but you can't win just based on that.
Muschamps defenses are top notch but you can't be awful on the offensive side of the ball.

Bama and Georgia had great defenses and were still top 25 offenses.

You aren't winning a title with the 112th ranked Offense.

I think Pell was pretty well liked there and he didn't run a scoring a machine I don't believe.

He was also pre-Spurrier, we were just happy to win some games before SOS.

I mean based on your definition everyone you play is a "rival" even the ULL's of the world. And yes I know that in that sense of course every opponent is a rival but I'm talking about a rivalry.

quote:

Sorry, but UGA and Vandy aren't rivals simply because we play each year.

One team might have a better chance and reaching the objective or a better success rate against the other, but that doesn't mean they aren't "rivals".

I disagree. Every "rivalry" is rooted in history and tradition of some kind. To say "well he used to be our coach now he's their coach for the last 2 years" doesn't make a rivalry.

We scored as much as we wanted to when Pell got it rolling. He was a Bear disciple and didn’t play to score quickly, he wanted to beat you down and make you quit. Too bad the NCAA followed him from Clemson.
