Dan Quinn was the DC when we had our best defenses. Who went on to coach the nasty D for the Seattle Seahawks and is now the HC for the Atlanta Falcons. I think Muschamp is good but not great. time will tell.

So at Bama it's Saban's D, not Smart's, but at LSU it was all Muschamp's?

Florida as a HC ...

I'll give him his due here. He had following:

2014:
9th in yards per game
24th scoring D

2013:
8th in yards per game
15th in scoring D

2012: (his best at UF)
5th in yards per game
5th in scoring D

2011:
8th in yards per game
20th in scoring D

He had top 10 in yards per game each of his four years at UF.
He averaged 16th in scoring D during his time there.

I could be wrong, but I find it hard to believe Auburn's defense is that devoid of talent. There are many guys recruited on defense that had offers from all over the SEC.

I do get the impression the lack of offense if hurting the whole team, but I also wonder if Muschamp is failing to get the most out of his guys.

He doesn't have the players for his scheme at the moment. I expected a slight improvement in the D, but at this point (with injuries and a shitty offense), nobody knows if there is an improvement or not.

The team is a complete shite show at the moment. Auburn fans need to take a deep breath and see if Malzahn can correct the offensive woes. Muschamp will get the D serviceable in my opinion if Malzahn can keep them off the field and create a spark on offense.

Do tell. Where has he had simply dominant Defenses? Where has he shown consistent top 5 or 10 defenses?

Hard to say "consistent," since he's moved around a lot, but pretty much everywhere. He brough Texas from mediocrity into a Top 5 defense. Florida was Top 10 every year except 2011 under him, when they were 11th. He was great at LSU and Auburn previously.

You missed my edits. He has produced a top 10 defense at literally every stop of his career.

In 2009 Texas was 1st in yards per play, 3rd in total yards.

LINK

His 2007 Auburn D was top 10 in scoring and total D.

when you go back and look at auburn's recruiting on defense its not that bad the class with lambert, russell, thornton, williams etc then cowart and prince tega this last class

think yall need a new DL coach cuz talent is not being developed

i saw plenty of highly rated db recruits too

shite i forgot about monty adams and elijiah daniel too lol yall might have gotten more stud dl's then fla has gotten over the last 3 yrs

maybe he needs time to develop them but i dont see how you can say he dont have the players and act like recruiting has been awful

better hope muschamp gets somebody else end of the yr

he made 2 good hires at uf in dan quinn and brad lawing

I think most of us wish he had brought Lawing with him from FL. Garner was the only coach on that side of the ball to stay, and probably because of who he is not what he can do.

Agree. I was actually pretty surprised at how poor our defense was at times once Quinn left. The fact that we gave up the most yards ever as a Gator defense last year with a lot of defensive talent was shocking. He is good, but certainly not the best.

Jesus he's been there what, 10 months? Give him some time to get his players that fit what he wants to do. 2001 class for LSU on defense turned out to be pretty damn good.

True, and shared by many. I like them both well enough, but one is not like the other by any stretch.

Every team deals with injuries. Auburn doesn't get a pass for that every season. Muschamp is a good DC, but I don't know why he took that job. You know he hates the offensive philosphy and there is no way he respects Malzahn as a coach. I think there is much more going on behind the scenes with that program, and it can't be good. It makes you wonder if Malzahn meddles with the defense in some way. Johnson while no Muschamp is a good defensive coach and he just appeared to suck at Auburn.

yeah, Auburn put all of their recruiting on the offensive side of the ball. Can't you tell?
