Figured I would start a football thread thread instead of more bullshite. With recruits like De'shawn Hand and the Tim Williams, it seems bama is trying to get a little lighter at Defensive End. Is this toplay more 4-3?

We play a lot of 4-3 IIRC. But we have been heavily recruiting the hybrid guys more recently, like Hand.

I think this may have been part of their problem on defense this year. Saban changed the type of athletes that he was recruiting, but they don't fit his system as well.

Ole Ellis was terrible, but we have more talent on defense than you think.

It did make it four whole posts before it imploded. That's...something to build on, right?

Hand is not a lighter DE. He's huge. Tim Williams is a OLB for Bama

I think it wouldn't hurt. We are thin at ILB.

I think the smartest thing to do would be what LSU did in 2011. Dead serious, they played about every type of offense in that season and were pretty damn successful in their efforts. I would however, like Bama to have a run-stuffing group able to come in whenever necessary and anchor the line of scrimmage pretty well.

No, Saban will run the 3-4 till he dies. Believes outside LB's are what makes Defense.

I think that you will see Bama scheme more to the opponent going forward and be less stubborn about sticking with 3-4.

Having to prep for Oregon that first game is what made the 2011 defense what it was, IMO. But LSU played almost exclusively with 2 LB that season. As talented as the rest of the defense was, LB was rather thin.

Sadly, no - we got Auburn fans instead.

Alabama will likely look more hybrid than anything else. We ran a lot of 4-3 this year, because of the changes in offensive philosophy around the conference it's needed.

That said, our "base" will likely remain 3-4 though that will mean little except in certain situations. Sort of like how certain players on basketball teams are "bench" players but then have a lot more playing time than the starters.
