Lindsey was a classic announcer born in Pulaski, TN. He was with Notre Dame football, the Cotton Bowl and Mets baseball for a long time. He's in 13 different Halls of Fame.

Remember when they had an elevation running up to the fence rather than a warning track?

Home runs sell tickets and make for an interesting game. And when you recruit and develop above average pitching it becomes an advantage.

Unfortunately, that doesn't translate well when you get to a bigger ballpark, like Omaha. For the fragile psyche of a college baseball player, the realization you only have warning track power is crushing.
Pitching & defense, and the ability to manufacture runs, wins championships. Playing in a hitter friendly park distorts the strengths & weaknesses of a team, and those weaknesses get magnified in a bigger ballpark.
Texas recruits players who can defend and hit in a big ball park, like Disch-Falk or Omaha, hosts Regionals & Supers, wins on the road, and occasionally gets to the CWS.
And, we sell a lot of tickets.

Small field makes your offense potent with average players, and good pitching contains the opponents.
Is this the reason why Tennessee chokes in the post season?

Why do simple folks believe that Vols home runs just barely clear the 320 fence?

If you're lazy and not disciplined, that can bite you in the arse when you move to a bigger park.quote:

You take a guy like Tre Morgan (LSU's 1st baseman/left fielder), with good bat control and not much power, and put him at Tennessee... he might hit 20 HR, because I think he can stroke a fly ball whenever he wants to. But at LSU, he hits line drives, and occasionally swings for the fences- and gets it close to the warning track.
