Going into the season, most people predicted AU would go 6-6 at best. Considering the schedule and youth, why is AU's season considered a failure?

Predicting you would suck and then sucking doesn't make sucking any less sucky.

No matter what was expected, if we just won a NC anything less than 9 wins would seem like a failure to me.

Also the way the losses happened. They weren't competitive in the 3 biggest games of the year.

They weren't remotely competitive against good teams. I guess SC would be the exception although SC played like garbage for a lot of the year too.

It wasn't the record, it was how bad the team looked compared to the good teams they played.

So how does having never been in the hunt for a NC feel to you? Do you feel like winners?

W and L wise we met or exceeded most reasonable expectations. How we actually looked in most games and how we seemed to regress instead of progress makes me consider this season as a failure.

It doesn't help that we red shirted some o-linemen that I think we needed to get ready for the future and wasted KF's redshirt year with the way that we used him.

Well getting 40+ put up on you by your biggest & most hated rivals (LSU,GA,BAMA) is bad imo..

but 7-5<5-7 (and Roof is gone per other thread)

agree 100%

its not the win loss that I consider a failure, of sorts - its the lack of competitiveness for a large part of the year - especially the big games. id rather us lose and play hard and to the wire than some of the crap we fielded this year.

I disagree slightly. It was as much or more about how bad we looked against the bad teams we played.

I think the way they lost is the reason. losses by 14, 24, 35, 38, and 28

Alabama lost it's senior QB. First round left tackle. First round WR. First round RB. And first round DE. After all that they've gotten better. I know Auburn lost a TON but it's still a failure of a season for them. They have pride in their team and seem to always have high expectations.

Not even in the same ball park as what AU lost. Not to mention Bama had been stocked with depth and talent that AU is still building.

I would take a loss by that margin every year to know that we would never blow a 24-0 lead at halftime

We skated by teams with lesser talent, but there is no way to hide poor qb play against solid teams. When your offense can't move the ball and your defense can't make a 3rd stop stop to save their lives, beatdowns happen

Bama got better because of their defense. I would say the offense took a step back this year. The problem with AU was that they stepped back on both sides of the ball.
