re: Why is Auburn the only member of the "big 6" unable to sustain success?

All Auburn cares about is Bama. That's why they will always be little brother.

Wow, 9-win seasons and AP top 15s. Y'all are raising the bar..
You set the bar at 10, I just showed you what one game difference makes. Plus the fact that AU played one of the most difficult schedules in the SEC during that period. I think AU sustained success as well as anyone in the last 30 years.

Being new to the SEC I don't really know the history, but I'm curious if there's a correlation between great years for Auburn and down years for Alabama?

I know this is a troll thread, but the Tigers were pretty damned good under multiple coaches. Shug got overshadowed by the Bear, but he regularly finished with 7-9 (and even a few 10) win seasons most of his career in a time when teams only played 10 games a season. You mention Dye's years, though you failed to mention they won 10 in three out of four seasons, not just two consecutive ones. Auburn's success only looks un-sustained next to Bama's. As far as the Big 6, Auburn probably has the 3rd best history in terms of sustained success over time, after Bama and Tennessee.
I like to troll Auburn as much as the next perfectly reasonable person, but I troll them with facts, like they're hillbilly Gump-wannabes and other trivia you can find on Jeopardy.

But why can't AU follow up a nice season with something other than 8-5 or 3-9?

Going to be a lot of hurt feelings this coming season.....

In the SEC Auburn is the only non-state school to be part of the big 6.... State schools have advantages, we get that....
Auburn fans have a connection to the schools, UGA, LSU, Bama, UT and yes even Florida fans just buy Tshirts....

So last decade, AU never lost more than 4 games in consecutive years.
Meanwhile, last decade, Bama lost 6 or more 4/5 years and at least 5 games in 6/8 years.
Also, Bama has not won 3 straight sec titles since bear Bryant. While AU did late 80's.
Not to mention AU has played a tougher schedule by far, yet won more SEC titles than Bama the past 30 years.

So much deflection from the obvious question...why can't AU find consecutive seasons in the top ten? Ten win seasons?

LSU? Twice.
Bama and UT? 4 times.
What's this I hear about consistency?

Least AU doesn't lose 6 or more 4/5 years. Hell, that hasn't happened since the 70's at least. Bama did it just last decade.

Looks like we have been winning more consistently than Bama for decades to me. And against a much tougher schedule year in and year out as well.
