No doubt....making 2 million vs 3.5 weeds out many.

He's addressed it on more than one occasion.

He's happy and likes his current gig.

He’d be the leading candidate at most schools. Like someone else said, if you’re happy you might as well wait for an opportunity you can’t refuse.

Clemson's done a good job of creating an environment that promotes the type of atmosphere that keeps coaches around. They love working there. Former NFL QB JP Losman has been on staff for a few years and talks about this:

JP Losman On Clemson

Venables has the extremely rare situation of being able to cherry-pick for a opportunities.

My guess is that he will take a serious look at a HC job when his son graduates unless Dabo moves on which he would be a shoe-in to take over at Clemson.

Dabo has threatened him with revealing their homo relationship if he leaves. It's the only plausible reason why.

it's because Saban hasn't been able to afford him yet. drop the 'roid program and that money might be freed up.

As I have said before, look to Monte Kiffin.

Monte Kiffin is widely regarded as one of the greatest DCs to ever walk the sidelines. He's made big money in the NFL and at some major colleges.

He was also a head coach for three years at NC State and evidently hated it so much he's turned down a ton of head coaching offers since then.

Realizing that you don't want the stress of the next level of coaching and settling into a happy and productive career is not the worst thing to happen to someone. I am sure Venables can console himself with the knowledge he's got virtual life tenure and is making 2 million bucks a year. All without the wear and tear of the being the Head Coach.

Probably waiting for the right one or he likes being a defensive coordinator.

Nobody has offered any of Dabo's staff a HC position other than Brent and then it wasn't a big name. Money talks but 1st there has to be an offer other than a sideways position.

Anybody who thinks he hasn't been offered jobs is sniffing glue.

He's getting paid $2MIL per year to call that defense. That means he can be extremely selective. Most likely, he's waiting on Dabo to go to Bama so he can take over at Clemson.

Really?! Dream on!

Honestly, does he want a HC job? Being a very highly paid successful coordinator seems like a great cushy job to keep on at. You could go get a HC job somewhere and fail and have to start all the way back over again rehabbing under Saban as a $50k/yr analyst.

Him and Aranda are both very successful D coordinators and are paid a ton of money, I'd continue to ride that out if I was them.

Paid millions. Gets to live in Clemson. Family. Easiest road to the Championship by far. This isn't difficult.

He's pretty smart not to IMO.

WAY too many DC's/OC's from successful program s jump ship immediately for a HC job. Many fall flat on their face and just don't realize who difficult it is to be a successful P5 or G5 coach.

With the way money being thrown at successful coordinators I really can't believe these guys continually take HC
offers.
