I remember the Iron Bowl was played in Birmingham as a kid and that was a big deal for these homers over here.

Was Jackson a hostile place for the eggbowl?
It's a shame that traditions don't last any more

Because Birmingham and Jackson are shitholes.

And the schools in Alabama and Mississippi decided to invest major money in their stadiums when Jackson and Birmingham decided not to.

Both stadiums are outdated.

I agree. The SEC doubleheader at the old Vet would be amazing today. State-Bama in the afternoon, LSU-Ole Moss at night.

Would they lose money if Georgia and Georgia Tech played in the new stadium in Atlanta every year?

Legion is a dump in a sketchy part of town. They are building a new stadium in a much better location but even then, it will only seat 55k.

I've never been to the stadium in Jackson, but if it's anything like Fountain Heights, the question answers itself.

Well, Veterans Memorial makes Legion Field look like the Mercedes Benz Stadium for starters. And Legion Field is a dump.

There’s nothing wrong with Tuscaloosa. The stadium is surrounded by multimillion dollar sorority houses and new-build condos.

Auburn always felt it was an Alabama home game at Legion Field...partly due to Alabama playing regular season games at Legion Field every year- Auburn did not.

Auburn played some regular season games at Legion Field until 1978.

Pat Dye pulled the game out o B'ham when it was Auburn's time to be the home team in 1989 and moved it to Auburn. Alabama didn't follow suit until 2000. As a result, Alabama moved ALL their home games to Tuscaloosa a couple of years later. That proved to be the demise of Legion Field.

There are SWAC teams trying to get out of playing at Veterans Memorial.

The high school championships were the only thing that brought anyone to that stadium - and they moved years ago

The Saints had their training camp at Millsaps for a few years. When they moved it back to Louisiana, as a thank you to Jackson for hosting them, they played an NFL preseason game at Veterans Memorial.

It was a complete cluster. They couldn't handle an SEC game today.

Imagine this. In 1991, State and Ole Miss stopped playing games in Jackson because the stadium was in disarray. Besides a new scoreboard (with non-HD video), no improvements have been made.

I worked with a guy who was involved with State's decision to leave the Vet. He said the Vet would nickle and dime the frick out of the "home" team to the point where it didn't become worth it.

Light fee
Irrigation fee
Gate unlocking fee

Occasionally Ole Miss and State would play "home" games at the Vet on the same Saturday and both schools would get charged for the same things.

He had absolutely nothing positive to say about State's time playing home games at the Vet.

I thought the Medical School was going to take it over and tear it down.
