Nope. They decided to go Div I and later lost their conference. Couldn't recruit or draw fans and lost a shitload of games and money. The interim president killed it in 2012.
New president got a lot of locals to pledge to fund it, so it was reinstated, and they were accepted by a conference in 2013
Current president killed it because of financial problems from covid. Locals raised $500k to fund it for one more year.

I have a nephew who played club hockey at Clemson. They can't give scholarships, but they waived out of state tuition.

Holy shite, I didn't realize how bad they'd been since they first lost their conference.
2010–2012 Chris Luongo 6–54–3 .119 First shutdown
2012–2013 Kurt Kleinendors 3–21–1 .140
2013–2020 Mike Corbett 48–181–24 .237 Second shutdown
That's one hell of a fall for a team that was winning DII NC's in the 90's and a conference championship in 2009, their last year before becoming the only independent in DI hockey.

Finding a venue that is close by is another big hurdle. Auburn's club team plays and practices at the Columbus Ice Rink in Columbus, GA. That's almost 45 minutes away from campus. I believe Alabama's team has a similar issue, having to travel to and from Birmingham each day. I heard rumors a few years ago that there was a proposal to turn the old Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum into a multi-purpose ice rink that connects to the university's recreation center.

Likely because of money and Title IX. It's a pretty expensive sport.
I wish we had it, though. I think it would draw attendance numbers similar to baseball.
