It was reported by al.com a couple months ago that several prominent members of the BOT wanted to kill UAB's football program. The story about the president having a study done is bs to take the heat off the board

Would LSU fans be banging on doors for Shreveport and Alex to have equal representation in matters
After years of being ignored by the LSU system, La Tech attempted to absorb LSUS into a Shreveport campus. LSU system promised more commitment. I think it resulted in LSUS changing its colors to purple and gold and getting to use the LSU logo with an S attached to it. They're all happy now.
Don't let anyone fool you. LSU runs things behind the scenes in LA just like Bama does.

When the numbers come out and people see the RED and see all the giveaways, the blowing of resources to inflate numbers, and actual "paid" attendance (not who shows up) - it will be a forgone conclusion.
As an alum., if it is as bad and shows the mismanagement of the AD as I think it will - I will want it shut down immediately.
And unlike people here - I actually give money to the University.

Us Louisianians have 3 FBS schools whose athletic programs are in the red in La Tech, ULL, and ULM. We can't talk about what's going on in Alabama. Truthfully, we might want to follow them in disbanding some of these athletic programs.

Al.com is pushing a false narrative - they are the TMZ of Alabama these days. No real "news" there. There are much better sources of news in this area.

Apparently they're also ending UAB's Honor's Program. This is despite UAB having 3 Rhodes Scholar over the past couple of years.
Again, this is larger than football. UAB has had tremendous growth over the past decade. They are the largest economic generator in the City of Birmingham. The BOT's efforts to stem this growth is an embarrassment and I don't understand how anyone can support them.

Are you referring to UAB's administration when you use "they" ? Or are we still trying to use Bryant as a boogeyman?

funny because all the administration at UAB seems to believe UAT fear is driving this.
Complete fabrication!!!!!!!
I can say with absolute certainty that 90% of faculty and administrators at UAB are anti-football. They see the wasted resources as well.
It is disgusting what is going on with my University. You people have zero clue - you just want to bash Alabama. Grow up, most things are more important than football.

Its The University of Alabama School of Medicine.

quote:Not necessarily. C-USA could reach out to a program in another conference to see if they would be interested in football only membership. If so then UAB's other sports will continue in C-USA competition.
Without Football, the entire sports program at UAB will have to find a new conference

Alabama BOT wants UAT to be "tFlagship" undergraduate program of the system and would prefer that UAB focus on grad school and med school.
I don't have a problem with this.

I don't have a problem with the decision over the football program. It's ridculous. However, I am supportive of doing whatever they can to support UAB academically, particularly the undergrad. and grad. programs. Therein may lie the issue.

What's driving this, is the balance sheet. After 23 years of continually losing money to the UAB money-pit, it's time to put an end to it. They probably haven't average 20 thousand at a home game.
Could anyone continually run a defcit, in such a matter as this?

I've seen some pretty sad faux outrage used to troll other fanbases on these boards. All the threads on this one just might be the saddest ones I've ever seen. Even the people trolling don't bother to sound particularly convinced by their own faux outrage.

Sounds like he has some serious power trip and control issues probably because he was a nobody compared to his dad.
He needs to let UAB be.
A lot of UA Athletic Money comes from UAB graduates who are big supporters of the Mothership. The fear is if UAB every established their own program, the money would move toward Birmingham.

quote:Essentially, they are tired of UAB athletics being a bottomless pit for education funds....and while on the subject, Auburn and LSU folks need to stay out of the affairs of UA and worry about their many pressing problems.
Essentially, they want UAB to revert back to being a commuter school and hope to stunt the growth of UAB and to an extent the City of Birmingham. It's Good Ol' Boy cronyism at it's best but I'm sure there will be Bama fans that will blindly defend.
