If there is any fan base that needs to be brought down to reality it is not Florida. I will give you another guess as to whom it may be. I will even narrow it down for you. This team has not beaten Florida in a long, long, long, time.

Anyone know what UTs coaching search budget for this year will be?

Yeah honestly 90% of this thread is just bickering. Nobody's changing anyone's opinion.

I think it's a legitimate conversation that nobody is really talking about. I really like UT's D, but I'm a little less sold on their offense.
They have a QB going into his first full year of being starter - impressive at times last year, but struggled at times. Somewhat unproven against quality opponents.
Hurd was a solid, not great RB as a freshman. I question his recent weight gain, but I'm interested to see how he performs with the added weight. Behind him is a transfer that I've seen one non-UT 247 admin describe as "can't miss" and be bullish about his talent - but the transfer "missed" at his initial school or he would not be at UT. Jury is still out.
The WRs are unquestionably talented and even better than a few days ago with Pearson back. But UT has had talented WRs for a while.
Even if you buy into all the skill position hype, they'll be playing behind a mediocre, at best, OL. An OL that just lost one of its most experienced guys and is presumably shuffling around its lineup to find the proper combination.
Then you have the OC hire. He could shock me, but he hasn't even been coaching football recently. I see them putting up ridiculous numbers in some games, their OL and OC letting their D down in a couple games and it ultimately costing them the East.

On a serious note, I think most non-UT fans would agree with this balanced perspective.

Very good post. I definitely agree that the OL is a question mark and we will see about Debord, it wasn't an exciting hire.
I also think the defense will be very solid this year and for years to come. I have no worries about playing McKenzie or Tuttle.

That's actually a good post. I would say every Tennessee fan's biggest fear/question going into the season is the offensive line and DeBord.
I think our defense will be stellar because we have elite playmakers at every level with a nice mix of solid veterans and young players with big talent. This will be the fastest Tennessee defense we have had in a long time.
Offensively I think we will be explosive at times when the offensive line allows it. That OL was easily the worst I've seen since watching Tennessee football but it went from horrendous to maybe average when Dobbs came into the lineup. Part of that due to scheduling but mainly due to Dobbs' talent and running ability.

You've got talent. But you don't have the ability to coach them up.
The Vol staff hasn't shown any ability to improve the players to where they can win the big game.
That goes for offense and defense.

Our defense was way better across the board from 2013 to 2014. From 84th in total D to 37th, and 87th in scoring D to 42nd. We return 9 starters on that same defense. So I don't see how they won't get even better

This makes no sense. This is Butch's third year, and played mostly freshman last; many of which balled out.
The big wins come with experience.

Actually it does. UT can only beat the bad teams or the mediocre teams on their schedule. Every year they lose the big game. Florida, Georgia, Bama, etc.
When you consistently lose close games, that's on the coaching staff.

But it's such a feel good story. Coach hires OC, who first hired him as OC. How many times will we hear that story this season? And how many times will Verne screw it up as he tries to spit it out?
