Butch has had inferior talent in every "big" game he's played so far, so he's been given some leeway. The only truly unacceptable loss so far would be to you guys last year. He now has plenty of talent to work with on both sides of the ball, so UT fans are expecting those close L's to be W's. Derek Dooley screwed us over so badly that the UT fanbase has been mostly forgiving so far, but now that it's mainly his team now, the excuses are gone. If UT fails to hit 8-4, many perspectives of Ut fans about Butch will change for the worse.

You've probably blocked it from your memory like I try to, but don't forget about Vandy 2013.

Otherwise, solid post.

That Vanderbilt team finished 9-4 (and were a red c*nt hair from beating Ole Miss and winning 10 that year). With the injuries UT had...I can say that there have been recent losses that have bothered me more than that one.

Vandy's last conference win. Won with the entire starting secondary knocked out in the first half, a quarterback playing with a torn ACL and a coaching staff with one foot out the door.

Good post,

I think for our offense to be great Dobbs has to take the next step and become elite, which is possible but certainly not given.

I think you'll be surprised about the RB's, from all the film I've watched from practice Jalen is faster than last season and bigger and Alvin literally looks like an elite talent. Everyoen within the program is gushing over them and trust me that hasn't been the case at that position for us in a decade.

But your point about the OL is very true.

I think the Oklahoma, Georgia and Alabama match ups are scary due to their pass rush ability and I think our OL really puts us in a tough spot. That is unless our D just overwhelms those teams on the other side of the ball which I think will be tough in botht he UGA and Bama matchups.

Like I've said 8-4 is my barometer for if our staff did an acceptable job this season. Do I think if things fall right we could do better? For sure, but I'm not expecting it.

Against the worst defense in TN history, with a coach who was being shoved out of the door by his own players

That was 2012. Although in 2013 Vandy played against an extremely green, undeveloped Josh Dobbs, (Worley was knocked out for the year vs Bama) and UT also had Marquez North, Curt Maggitt, and several secondary players out for that game as well.

I think you're confusing 2012 with 2013.

Didn't your head coach say that your quarterbacks couldn't hit the receivers without coverage? Lol
