People always think UGA will be good between February and August.

I don't know of anyone who thinks they will be a great team. I know lots of people who look at their joke of a schedule and see 10-12 wins and an auto-bid to Atlanta for the 2nd time in a row.

It's an annual belief.

Much like UF being put in every top 25 preseason poll, even if it's not deserved.

UGA will lose 2-3 games this year, like every year. UF will struggle to finish in the top 25, and probably won't. Same shite, another year.

I agree with that whole OP, a lot of people are hyping Georgia because their schedule is favorable but I don't see them winning the East this year.

First off,

so totally awesome

WTF! Don't you have to be 16 to be on the rant?

Next,

The problem is their offense is going to blow.

Yes we lose 3 OL, but will be replaced by 2 who have started multiple games, and another that is a roided up redshirt sophomore. OL doesn't lack talent, they just have not played together. Orson Charles will not be missed. Period.

Boykin made plays, but hardly at CB. Mostly on special teams.

I just don't see how UGA can beat USCe and UF this year

Can you read. Look, nobody knows who is going to win the east. But, if you look at last years results combined with who's returning and the schedule, it's obvious that UGA should be the favorite. Will they win it, I don't know. You don't have to be all that great to win the east anyway.

Nearly every year. Hasn't really mattered yet.

IMHO, GA wins 9-10 games due to favorable schedule, probably good enough for 3rd place in the SEC.

Then who the frick will?

I'll tell you why we'll be good.

- our defense will be downright nasty. We finished in the top 5 in total D last year and essentially return 10 starters. We have studs at all levels, from Geathers/Jenkins on DL, to Jarvis, Tree, Gilliard, and Herrera at LB, to Rambo and Williams at safety. I don't care if we had Athens Tech students playing offense, that defense will keep us in every game.

- We have the 2nd best QB in the conference. If Murray can curtail his turnovers just a hair, there's no reason to think he can't be one of the better QBs in the country.

- UGA has shown a history of being just fine at the TE position. Shannon Mitchell, to Larry Brown/Jermaine Wiggins, Randy McMichael, Ben Watson, Leonard Pope, Orson Charles. Jay Rome was a 5* in HS and rated by some as the #1 TE in the country. We also have the more lutzy type TE in Arthur Lynch to provide blocking. I'm not sweating TE at all.

- OL will be a question mark early, but I'm not ready to say it's a weakness. The starting 5 as of today is pretty darn good (although not great or elite by any means). We add a JUCO who is already ready and a 5* tackle to boot. The last true freshman we started at tackle turned out to fair pretty frickin good, in fact Sturdivant dominated in 2007. I see no reason why Theus can't be an upgrade over what we had last year.

-Our receivers are deep, and good. Malcolm Mitchell, Chris Conley, Michael Bennett, Tavarres King, and Marlon Brown have all made at least one huge play in their careers. We have basically everything you want in a group. A speedy, shifty burner, a guy with glue hands that runs smooth routes, a big body guy who you know you can throw to on 3rd down that will catch the ball, a fluid, smooth receiver who can basically do it all, and a tall guy that can go get jump balls.

- running game. People don't realize that Crowell was hurt basically the entire 2011 season. Be it a knee, ankle, wrist, groin, whatever...we barely saw IC at 100% ever last year, and that's pretty frightening considering what he did anyway. This year he'll be a year older and more acclimated (both physically and mentally), but more importantly he'll be healthy. Throw in Ken Malcome who looked great last year (also as a freshman) and 2 very highly rated guys coming in. We're deep at RB, very deep.

- the schedule. There's no excuse whatsoever to lose more than 1 game next year in the regular season. Hell, we only lost 2 last year and we replace a top 10 team with Buffalo. People who think we'll lose 3 games are crazy.

Veteran QB, solid RBs, good defense.

Sounds like a recipe for a good SEC team. It is UGA/Richt though, so you never know.

Think about the times in Richt's tenure when he's had a veteran QB, solid RBs, and a good defense. I'll save you the trouble and list the years for you:

02 (if you consider a 3rd year RS SO veteran?)
03
04
05
11

Wanna know the results from those 5 years? 4 east titles, 2 SEC titles, 4 top 10 finishes.

When we've had the 3 things you've listed we have tended to have very good years.

Calm down dude. I actually think UGA wins thr East. I'm on my iPhone eating lunch so didn't feel like typing out my entire thought train.

Biggest question mark is the offensive line. Solid running backs, a very good receiving corp IMO, experienced starter at quarterback, and a defense that seems to be ever-improving. And a schedule that is second to none as far as conference play is concerned.

I think UGA is primed for another trip to Atlanta.

I don't see any logical reason why not. The only team that could challenge is USC, but I think we beat them this year due to several factors, and their west schedule is much tougher. If we don't win the east Richt should be fired in the lockerroom.

Yeah there are really no excuses not to win it.

if anything my optimism stems purely from what our strength is. our front 7 is as good as it has ever been and this is probably the deepest, most talented DL we have ever had under richt. of course i am one of those guys who puts a ton of emphasis on the LOS. which is also why my optimism is slightly tempered by our running comedy of errors on the OL

Two separate questions. Asking why you think they'll make it to Atlanta may be due to schedule. But why do you think they're going to be good? Or why don't you? Relevant facts not grounded in "UGA is always supposed to be good " is not a relevant fact. What on their team is a cause for concern that will be too much for them to overcome in the East?
