Why didn’t they keep the BCS rankings for the playoffs?

I hate the stupid selection committee.

They should just have used the BCS top 4.

BCS...the thing that asked for coach's input of all other schools playing knowing they not only NEVER HAD THE TIME, but passed it off to others who used their bias to help/hurt certain schools?

This will get downvoted into oblivion, but 2011 had a lot to do with killing the BCS system because two teams from the same conference got in. That has also happened in the CFP though, which us why there's an uproar to expand the CFP to 8.

My proposal would be for the committee to rank the teams, bring back the AP poll as part of the BCS formula. and weigh the CFP committee rankings and the BCS rankings at 50% each for the Top 4 teams and leave the playoff format alone.

I'm not sure folks that want an 8 team playoff undestand the time and money investment involved in that.

The BCS rankings were complete garbage after they removed margin of victory from the formula.

Always hated the selection committee idea. BCS ruled.

I think Gus will have us in the playoffs next year, however.

They should have kept BCS rankings, and brought back margin of victory/defeat.

Because the current system allows them to set it up for tv ratings. That's why they refuse to set clear objective qualifying criteria.

It’s all about ratings, buzz, and money now. Matchups that people want to see, not who has actually done what they had to do to get in (ie - win their conference).

NFL doesn’t have these stupid discussions.

The bcs was so terrible.

This system is so much better

It’s simple, to have total control.

Correct. Nothing motivates the other conferences like another SEC vs. SEC title game, especially if one of the SEC teams was 2nd in their division.

You really think a formula that had a computer which picked UCF as the #1 team in the country a few years ago is somehow better?

Those computer formulas are shite. There are some better metrics out these days, but none of them were in the BCS formula.

Hell, they weren't even allowed to take MOV into account.

And what part of the AP and Coaches polls, the other 2 factors, makes you think those are worth a shite?

Meanwhile, name the year the committee has gotten it wrong so far.

The BCS has a formula that tells you the top 4 teams. There would be no debate as to who the top 4 teams were in the BCS system. In 2011, were LSU and Bama not the two top teams in college football? They definitely were the two best teams in college football that year. BCS will always give you the top 4 teams

How could you know if it’s right or wrong?

Because in 2011, LSU and Bama were by far the 2 best teams in the country.

The problem with picking the "best" teams is it's subjective. Accomplishment on the field is what should matter period. Every other sport knows this already...
