re: Rule Changes you want to see

Posted by intothegrinder on 12/28/20 at 4:14 am
1. Go back to the old rule of an "unintentional face mask" pull only being a 5 yard penalty.

2. Get rid of all the new "player safety" rules on special teams. It's almost impossible to block a kick or recover an onside kick now.

3. Get rid of the rule that if your helmet comes off you have to stop trying to make a play.

4. Give the replay booth a 2 minute time limit to make a decision. If they can't decide to overturn the call in that time then it's obviously not "conclusive".

(He checked out of every Luke call)

No he didn't, because Matt Luke did not (and never has) called plays.

If Corral is telling the truth, then he "checked out of every Rich Rodriguez call".

Your post is just the typical uninformed fan "Let's blame everything on the Head Coach!" nonsense.

On paper, Moorhead was a slam dunk but for what ever reason it isn’t working

How about he's never had a QB worth a sh!t?

Year #1 he had Nick Fitzgerald who can't throw.
Year #2 he has a true freshman who isn't ready.

Maybe, just maybe, that's why it "isn't working".
The BCS rankings were complete garbage after they removed margin of victory from the formula.

Jeremy Pruitt ruined Georgia

Posted by intothegrinder on 10/13/19 at 12:08 pm
Hiring away Jim Cheney was a masterstroke. :pimp:

It forced Kirby to hire a new OC and predictably he screwed it up (like most defensive minded coaches do.). With the exception of Vandy, Georgia now has the worst OC in the SEC.

Kirby is now learning what Mark Richt did after Bobo left, it's hard to find a good Pro Style OC in college football these days. James Coley is Kirby's Brian Schottenheimer!

The only thing that's gonna save Kirby at UGA is Mike Bobo getting fired at Colorado State and him coming home to call plays. UGA fans better start rooting against those Rams.....

What really happened?

1. When DC Jeremy Pruitt left to take the Georgia DC job in 2014, Fisher promoted LB coach Charles Kelly to DC. He was a big step down and the defense progressively got worse.

2. The OL coach Rick Trickett got old and his recruiting fell off and the OL started to suck.

Notice Jimbo didn't bring either of them with him to A&M...
Not with James Coley as his OC.

re: Why did Bert fail?

had never built a program before

This is the correct answer.

At Wisconsin Bielema inherited a program built by Barry Alvarez that was a perennial 10 win team. And to Bret's credit he maintained that standard. At Arkansas he inherited a train wreck from John L Smith.

Other factors:

*Poor OL recruiting/coaching

The one year they really needed to hit a homerun in OL recruiting Sam Pittman quit which ruined the class. Then Bret made a poor replacement hire in Kurt Anderson.

*Defense got worse every year.

Which is really an indictment on Bielema considering he's a former defensive coordinator.

Greatest recruiters in College football history (modern era 1970-present)

Lou Holtz should be on your list, also Mack Brown is overrated.

1. Nick Saban
2. Bobby Bowden
3. Urban Meyer
4. Pete Carroll
5. Butch Davis
6. Barry Switzer
7. Lou Holtz
8. Jimmy Johnson
9. Tom Osbourne
10. John Cooper
quote:

Barry Odom seems to have scrapped a team together after all.

Too bad then that he hired such mediocre coordinators.

I can't imagine us not winning 7 games with arguably our best defense Mullen has had.

You sure have a lot of faith in Peter Sirmon as your new DC considering his lack of experience. The guy is 39 years old and a 1st time coordinator, the SEC usually isn't the place for on the job training.

Plus you have all new position coaches on that side of the ball. I think your defense will likely take a step back this year.

re: Great OC hire Georgia

Cheney is the best OC in the East.

1. Jim Chaney (georgia)
2. Mike DeBord (tennessee)
3. Doug Nussmeier (florida)
4. Kurt Roper (south carolina)
5. ? (missouri)
6. Andy Ludwig (vandy)
7. Shannon Dawson (kentucky)

And he's 100x times better than Rhett Lashlee at Auburn.
Chaney is a competent OC, probably the best Georgia could get.
Probably one of these classes...

2003: USC = 14 NFL draft picks

1990: Notre Dame = 13 NFL draft picks

1983: Miami = 12 NFL draft picks
1987: Notre Dame = 12 NFL draft picks
1997: Tennessee = 12 NFL draft picks
2001: Miami = 12 NFL draft picks
2002: Ohio State = 12 NFL draft picks

re: Why can't Saban evaluate qb's

Why can't Saban evaluate qb's

Why would you think he could? The man's entire background is on defense. He played DB, coached DB's and been a DC.

So why the hell would you expect a man who's never played QB, or coached QB's, to be able to evaluate QB's?

HC's are hired because they have an expertise on ONE side of the ball. Saban's teams play great defense because that's what he knows, how well the offense does (and how well they evaluate/recruit) is dependant upon the quality of offensive coaching staff he's able to put together.

Idiots like you give HC's way to much credit/blame for everything. You really think Les Miles has jack sh!t to do with LSU's defense? Or Bob Stoops has anything to do with Oklahoma's offense? Newsflash, they don't.

quote:

Having said that, I don't know how to explain his success at Ohio State. I only know that he sucked at Arkansas.

quote:

Because Fickell is the one in charge of their defense

No he's not, Fickell was demoted to LB coach and given the "co-DC" title to save face since he's a Buckeye alum. But Ash is the DC and is calling the defense, and he didn't suck at Arkansas your players suck.

And  at Arkansas fans who think they're gonna upgrade from Jim Chaney. Where exactly is Bert gonna get a Pro-style OC to run his offense? In case you haven't noticed most teams run the spread these days. It's slim pickins out there for Pro-style OC's, and the odds that Bert gets a good one are slim. Hell UGA had to settle for that bum Brian Schottenheimer, and you think Arky's gonna get a good Pro-style OC?

Arky FUUUUUUUCKED.

That's as good as an offensive staff that I've seen

It's an average offensive staff at best, the only above average coaches are McDonald & Summers.

The defensive staff is solid, but Randy Shannon may be one of the most overrated recruiters in the history of CFB.

Overall this isn't a staff that's gonna win any championships at UF. Look for UGA & UT to dominate the East for the next 5 years.
Orgeron's never been a DC in his life, this will be a complete disaster like Sal Sunseri was at Tennessee.
Pac 12 refs are godawful, the absolute worst.

Expect 15 flags minimum, those guys call every little ticky-tack thing they can.

Just search google or twitter for "Pac 12 refs"...
quote:

compare with them with Baylor, then. Baylor had the best wins and their losses were about even, although Ohio St was beaten pretty soundly, at home. Baylor lost on the road. Baylor also beat Oklahoma, on the road, badly, and Kansas St. IMO, Baylor is the team getting screwed over the most, regardless of people think TCU is better. Baylor earned it the most IMO.

What a load of crap.

Baylor & Ohio State both lost a game by 14 points. Baylor lost to a 7-5 team, Ohio State lost to a 6-6 team, both are bad losses.

Baylor's Non-Conference Strength of Schedule was 128 out of 128 FBS teams, the absolute worst in the country. You can't reward that or nobody will ever play a tough OOC game again.

Also for those crying for the BCS computer crap, there's a site that has "BCS Proxy Rankings" for this year, and the same 4 teams would've been chosen, except FSU would've been #2 & Oregon #3.
