Why did Nick Saban abandon Louisiana State University?
He just wasn’t that into you.

Who else ever did that in the same conference?
I assume you mean left an SEC school for another job then returned to coach a different SEC school:
1. For starters John Heisman left Auburn (who wouldn't?) for Clemson (OMG, Auburn with a lake), and then went to Georgia Tech. He was a dick and I saw his teams play at GT (just kidding), a school the entire conference hated then and still should.
2. Steve Spurrier left Florida for Washington Football Team then to South Carolina.
3. Paul Bryant (you may have heard of him) left Kentucky for aTm and then went to Alabama...
There are others and if you counted assistant coaches, there are tens (or hundreds) just farmed out from Alabama during Bryant-Saban years. But though Auburn, Kentucky, and Florida et Al. fans were sorry to see those coaches go, they did not have a 15 year meltdown, crying, wailing, gnashing teeth, beating their wives, kicking dogs, cursing heaven and earth with hate and damnation, blaming god and the devil or Alabama for all the ills and misfortunes that have since befallen their pitiful programs. In other words, those fans moved on like adults.
I leave it to you to decide what has happened for 15 years down here... take my word for it...it ain't pretty...

The OP could ask the same about why saban abandoned an NFL team... but this is about LSU and not saban abandoning a professional franchise because he couldn't handle the pressure, demands, complexity, the big city, and a slew of other items.

I know this is not a serious thread and I have no idea why I am giving it a serious response, but both Mssrs. Daniel Mullen and Thomas Tuberville moved within conference - and, in fact, went directly from one school to another. There are probably others if I sat here and thought long enough.

Why did Dennis Franchione abandon the University of Alabama?
I don’t know, but I’m glad that loser left. Bama got a new and better dad. We live in a big house with servants. Last I heard Fran was in some shithole in West Texas.

Fran found a more expensive ROPE to hold

To go to the NFL. But he said leaving LSU was the biggest mistake of his life. He wishes he was still here. You live and you learn.

Mike Price or Mike Shula? Hopefully Saban lives to 100 so you don’t have to see those dark days again.

You must not be paying much attention to the recruiting pipeline coach Saban left behind. The one that goes right up the main street of Baton Rouge, as well as throughout the state.
Devonta Smith, Chris Harris, Dylan Moses, Phil Mathis, and a boatload of others will gladly tell you they weren't abandoned by coach Saban.

Y’all arguing about if Alabama is better than Louisiana is like arguing about who is the smartest kid on the short bus. They are both in the bottom 10 states to live in while Texas is in the top 5

Since we go through this same conversation every year, it's easy to forget that Coach Saban left BR 16 years ago.
I appreciate what he did for us, and how he left the program in much greater shape than how he found it.
There will come a day when he returns to TS to celebrate his first national title with his old team. I believe he will receive a much warmer welcome than he has been getting as an opposing coach- and that's how it should be.
Hoping we see a spirited contest tomorrow night. I know the odds- but this is still a special game.
