In 2013 you were probably the 4th best team in the SEC, but played for a national title because you bounced a ball off a defender's facemask for a 50+ yard touchdown at the end of one game, and returned a field goal with no time left in another.

We whipped UGA for 52 min. switched off and they made a good comeback but only ever took the lead off a bogus TD on 4th down.

Well you know we were tied with bama, the #1 team in the country, after 59:59.

We whipped top 5 Mizzou and were beating the new #1 team in the Natty until there were :13 in the game.

That team was pretty damn good.

If you want to talk about flukes look at your titles in 2011 and 2015. At least in our "flukes" we made them happen ourselves.

Because without Cam everything goes to shite.

Not only them, but think about it. What if Cam Newton did not play for the Panthers... The defense would be great but they would not have the offense to back it up unless they had another dual threat quarterback

Maybe they could grab Kaepernick

Fairley was good but no

Fairley was easily, easily the best defensive player in college football that year. For that one season he was the best interior lineman in the SEC since expansion.

2015

Not sure how 2015 would be a fluke. We beat #2 by 5, #6, #16, #21, #22 and #25, #2 and #6 in back to back games to end the year.

Beat #2 Clemson by 5
Beat #6 Michigan State by 38
Beat #16 LSU by 14
Beat #21 Wisconsin by 18
Beat #22 Tennessee by 5
Beat #25 Florida by 14

Seems pretty non-fluky

That's silly.

Da'Quan Bowers - 16 sacks, 25 TFL
Ryan Kerrigan - 12.5 sacks, 26 TFL
Nick Fairley - 11.5 sacks, 24 TFL

Fairley was one of, but easily the best? No.

I watched Bowers play on a good Defense. I also watched Fairley get double teamed all year and still produce those numbers. AUs defense was not great along the DL that year. People who only post stats to prove their point usually have a weak argument, because there is usually more to the story.

Bowers was on a much better defense.

total d
Clemson #19
Auburn #60

scoring d
Clemson #13
Auburn #53

Fairley was a monster with limited help and made monster plays.

You guys do understand they played different positions right and that Fairley put up similar numbers playing a positions where it's much more difficult to get those kind of numbers?

You also understand Fairley was playing against far superior competition and he made plays in the biggest spots in the biggest games.

He completely dominated the LSU game, saved us repeatedly against MSU, put on a performance against UGA that still has them rustled and was in McElroy's grill all day. Also dominated in the NCG. Knocked countless QBs out. The dude was a monster and his equal hasn't been since in this league since he left.

A fluke would be UGA playing in the National Championship Game. Playing in it twice within 5 years is a trend.

Only a blind man cant see the flukes on this list, and it takes an idiot to deny them:

08: 5-7
09: 8-5
10: 14-0
11: 8-5
12: 3-9
13: 12-2
14: 8-5
15: 7-6

I hated him but he was just as important to Auburn as Cam that season.

Of course Alabama getting in the playoff this year was a bit Flukey

It was also flukey that Michigan State and Oklahoma were there

every great championship season has weird bounces and breaks that just seem to go your way
