Yes and everyone realizes the talent he has brought in but none of that matters if he doesn't utilize it properly. I expect him to win 9-10 games next year but if he somehow manages to get just 7 wins then he has done a horrible job with that talent.

I wasn't arguing that he has or would. The argument is that if he doesn't and gets fired all that talent is still there and the job is very attractive to a better, more proven head coach in 2017.

Offense was good but the defense was horrendous despite returning most everyone from the year before. Maggitt and Randolph got hurt but the main problem was losing Wilcox and Sirmon and replacing them with Swiss Cheese Sal.

Sure but I don't agree with your conclusion that improvement from Dooley means he has done "wonders". I would agree if he wins 9-10 games next year which I expect.

Wonders may be a tad strong, but he has made the program much, much more attractive should be leave.

I can't remember many defenses having more total coverage busts than that team. It seemed like they had 7-8 total miscommunications in the secondary every single game.

The Randolph loss was huge I think. I can't remember a team with worse safety play than that team.
Hopefully the 2016 VOLS react better to life without Randolph than the 2012 version did.

Agreed, was telling a Tennessee fan that if a coach doesn't work out then I would much rather him be a great recruiter/ poor coach as opposed to one that is a great coach/ poor recruiter. Not that I think Butch is "poor" in the coaching department.
This is what worries me a little when it comes to Bert. I think he does a great job getting in the type of kids that work well with his system and most are just great kids in general. He also does a great job developing them. It will be a tough transition if Bert leaves in a couple of years though.

Butch has not done "wonders." His job performance simply looks better than it is because Dooley was such a frickup.

Feel like it would be a lot like when Petrino left, especially if the new hire doesn't have a similar philosophy.
Hopefully for you guys (and the SEC), Bert sticks around. League is better with a guy like that around.

The fact that we were able to hire Shoop speaks volumes. No one of his caliber would've touched us with the mess we had.

75% of that 2012 Tennessee team's offensive players are playing in the NFL somewhere. Half of them start (including 3/5 of the offensive line).

Most of them were UDFA's though. Hunter, CP, and Rivera are the only draft picks I can think of. The rest were UDFAs. If you include the OL which didn't go until 2014 it's much higher. That entire line is starting minus Tiny and we all know Tiny would be tearing it up in the league if his knees weren't shot to hell.

Auburn offered to make him the highest paid DC just like they did with Muschamp and he turned them down. LSU tried to hire him the year before. Shoop wants to be a HC and he sees a stacked Defense and team capable of getting to very high levels. He doesn't have to rebuild anything and UT is in a position to showcase his talents.
