Why are all the talking heads so high on Bama in '09?

Yes, they return 9 players on defense, but lose quite a few impact players. I think the position that will hurt them the most, though it pains me to say it, is QB. JPW brought a lot of senior leadership to that team.

I think Bama was over-rated this year, because their "key" wins were against teams that were over-rated...Clemson, Georgia, and even LSU. These three teams were not nearly as good as they were supposed to be.

Young team. Were considered a year away from competing and still only lost two games. Great coach. Defending SEC West champs.

Same reason why they still finished up ranked 6th in the nation(???? wtf). The news media still creams over Saban for whatever reason.

and also in the same light, LSU faced many similar concerns and was ranked high themselves this year. Time will tell and if our hunches are true they'll stumble like we did.

Well, every program he touches turns to gold, relentless recruiter, a ring, and the respect of every other coach. Sucks he is at Bama but there is a reason he is so highly thought of.

They've gotta set up the "underachieved" storyline each year. This year that was LSU, UGA, Clemson..next year it'll be Bama. They can't slam you if they don't first build you up.

I agree he is a good coach with a NC to boot BUT...... look at the whole picture. Is he REALLY all that, like the media portrays? He averages 2-3 losses per season, quite a few against inferior opponents.
I like him, good coach and did alot to put us back on the right path, but I don't understand the "awe" of him either.

Dolphins? - fail

Mich st - gold? Only 1 season of 5 with more than 7 wins.

LSU - yes

Bama - jury's still out

Far from "every program"

averaging only 2-3 losses per year in your career gets you in the Hall of Fame.

It's just what happens when you are a name team and go 12-2 the previous year.

but he isn't

Michigan State 24 losses in 5 years, only one season with fewer than 5 losses

LSU 16 losses in 5 years, only one season with less than 3 losses

Miami 15-17

Alabama 8 losses in 2 seasons

since 1995 he has only had 3 seasons with 2 or less losses

Then just be happy that he doesn't coach LSU anymore. Let it die man.

I think Bama will be competitive next year, but they will have a new QB, and some line to replace. I doubt they will have as good a record as this year. Probably most depends on their level of competition on the schedule next year (i.e. "easy schedule" or not). KC.

don't get me wrong he a good coach, but to say that he averages between 2/3 losses a season and has HOF credentials to this point is inaccurate

It's like everything else. There is reality, and then there's the "nutshell" perception that's put out there for people to assimilate and come to accecpt as fact. Same thing applies with politics and major news events. We want everything in the "simplified" version, and don't care if it is substantial or not. Everything from boxed pre-fab food, to who we elect as leaders of our country!

I don;t know because I think our offensive line will be average at best. I hope Saban can get them to step up.

Defensively they have almost everyone back. Rashad Johnson is a loss but they have good safeties waiting in the wings and I think it will not be a drastic loss in the end. The defensive side should be even better. Offensive side depends on the how the line will produce and if the new guys they sign there can have the impact they are expected to.
