Who would Alabama have hired if Saban had rejected them?

That search was really turning into a disaster with everybody rejecting Alabama. It almost seems like Alabama would have had to cancel the 2007 season if they hadn't gotten Saban. (I'm exaggerating- maybe slightly.)

You sure start a lot of Alabama threads.
Do you want a fan application?

I heard Lane Kiffin was clamoring for the job (if you haven't heard, Bama is his dream job).

Rich Rod is the only candidate that I was aware of that rejected the job. If there was another please enlighten us. Joe Kines coached the bowl game after Shula was let go so maybe him.

Honestly it would have been bad. I think the next call would have been will muschamp. He was the it DC(was hired as Mack brown replacement the next year) was coaching under saban in Miami at the time and probably would have been highly recommended by saban.

You’re a few years early, Muschamp was still at Auburn in 2006/2007.

I think they would've gone after Schiano, Petrino or Chris Petersen.

I recall rumors Spurrier got a call, but wasn't interested and Schiano was the next potential candidate with Cutcliffe as a lifeline. But, that very well could have all been pure internet insider BS, which is first principle of all of these boards. #traditions

The real question is if saban turns down bama where does he go? He might stay with the phins a couple seasons but he wanted back in college and would have returned eventually. That time frame saw Pete Carroll leave usc bout to go on probation but it’s a pro city and alumni will open pockets for winners, Lloyd car fired from Michigan they were quite familiar with him from sparty days, and fulmer from tenner, maybe osu cans tress earlier to get him. College football would look a lot different no matter where saban ended up. Hell maybe he replaces franchione and atm becomes the power of cfb, big 12 was dominate in the nineties with saban they might be the undisputed power. Maybe atm neb mizzo don’t think about leaving and the big poaches the best pac schools
