For comparison sake....LSU over that same stretch 2010-2012

LSU vs Top 25 teams

16-6 with an average score of 27-19

LSU vs Top 15 teams

7-6 with an average score of 23-21

LSU vs Top 10 teams

5-4 with an average score of 20-19

LSU vs Top 5 teams

5-3 with an average score of 21-20

So half of those 6 losses came against eventual national champions Auburn and Alabama.

UGA fans love to hate on Mett.

But LSU fans are sold on him? I haven't read a single sports reporter or magazine that says they are confident Mett will play well this year.

That said, defense wins championships...but offense can win games. We'll see. I think Georgia's defense will be better than most think. And don't forget...LSU lost almost as many on defense as Georgia did. Granted, they have a lot more depth to reload with, but Grantham will have the "D" ready if he wants to get back to the NFL. Personally, I think Georgia wins, but I am a Ga fan. I am guessing Georgia 24-LSU14

Can't really pick being that THE SEASON HASN'T EVEN STARTED. But for now you have to give the edge to Murray in his home stadium. Kid is pretty damn solid

Yet Georgia came closer to beating Alabama last year than LSU....so what does that make LSU's team from last year?

He struggled but we still won the game.

I'll acknowledge that, but I wouldn't credit Murray for the win.

Also played very well in the SECCG last December.

Yeah, he played well, and Alabama did not. What's it say when a team plays sloppy and still wins?
quote:

It's easy to forget that if that pass isn't tipped and Mitchell catches the touchdown, Murray is a hero and his record vs ranked opponents is never brought up again.

I don't forget. It's easy to forget that McCarron threw a bad back shoulder pass into the end zone which was picked off. It's easy to forget that Alabama was a few seconds off from converting on a 4th down from a fake kick. Afterwards, Georgia used a fake kick to convert on 4th down. Georgia needed a fluke blocked field goal that shouldn't have occurred. Replay shows that the McCarron's pass wasn't tipped at the line of scrimmage, so the pass interference call should have stood. Saban's timeout mismanagement was the difference between a field goal and a touchdown at the end of the first half. Do you see now? That's 14 points that Georgia cannot count on getting if this game was played over again, and 11 or so points that Alabama left off the board.

I'd also like to remind you that Florida had a better defense than Alabama. Might facing the SEC's greatest secondary have played a role in Murray's performance against Florida? I think so.
quote:

we beat 15th ranked Nebraska pretty handily.

Nebraska was way overrated. You said you beat them handily, but the game was tied at the end of the 3rd, and Murray had thrown a pick 6. Nebraska's #1 pass defense was overrated too. If you want to see Nebraska beaten handily, then look at their games versus Ohio State and Wisconsin in the Big 10 Championship.

quote:

LSU really doesn't scare me and we match up well against them.

Neither team should be scared of the other. LSU fans here as a whole appear to respect Georgia and this game, but on the other hand, those favoring Georgia aren't paying LSU enough respect. Georgia may win this game, but that won't change the fact that the LSU program is significantly better than the Georgia program. Georgia won't close that gap until they beat more legit, highly ranked teams and bring home at least 2 BCS National Championships, 1 for consideration.

quote:

If we're 2-0, I don't see us losing.

I've heard that South Carolina struggles on the road, but they should be better than the team that beat you 35-7 last year. Spurrier knows how to get his team ready for Georgia, and I trust that they will be. Will Richt get outcoached for the 4th year straight?

You're talking in circles, what happened in 2010, 2011, and 2012 literally (outside of recruiting) has no bearing on what happens this year.

And I realize that we replace a ton on defense as well. I addressed that with my first post. In the second post that you just quoted I was speaking on LSU compared to UF, Carolina, and Clemson, providing reasoning like you asked. I never denied anywhere that we have a lot to replace on defense.

Well said!

I truly believe most people are going to be shocked at how well we have reloaded on defense and with the addition of Cam to the offense we will show improvement. I am not ready to predict this game yet. I will be after our opener against TCU though

We lose to UGA, in Athens, but beat them in Atlanta.

Excellent point, and honestly LSU played Alabama much better. Alabama scored 32 points on offense and left a few more field goals or touchdowns off the board. Alabama ran for 350 yards. Georgia deserved to lose. Alabama was the better team, played average on defense, and let Georgia stay in the game. The final score shouldn't have been that close. On the other hand, Alabama was fortunate to walk out of Death Valley with a win. Both teams made mistakes and left points off the board, but I find LSU's performance more impressive. LSU dominated the second half. Georgia didn't dominate Alabama.

Wow. Mettenberger was 14/23 for 120 yards with 1 TD and 1 INT against the Clemson defense, and you SERIOUSLY want to talk about Murray?

Also, he was 11/29 for 97 yards and 1 TD against A&M?

12/25 148 yards 0 TD 1INT against South carolina

11/25 158 yards 0TD 1INT against Florida

15/27 169yards 0TD 0INT against Auburn

You REALLY want to talk about Murray?

Win

Unlike UGA, my team wins despite our QB playing poorly.

And of course Alabama playing "average on defense" had nothing to dow ith Georgia playing so well on offense, right? I mean, because Alabama played average on defense against so many other teams, right?

Based on? Their defense being shredded by graduation/draft? Losing the best runningback in school history? Losing their best playmaker in Ace Sanders? How are they going to be better when they have very little experience in at linebacker and in the secondary?

Um, ok. Did someone else throw the game winning TD pass w/ 7 minutes to go?

Jesus man. "They played good because we didn't".

We beat them by 2 TD's. that's handily no matter how you slice it.

Don't you just love how the Georgia fan leaves out the Alabama and Ole Miss performances?

Maybe we should bring up Murray's performances against South Carolina (blowout loss) and Florida (near miss).

Your team wins in spite of your quarterback, period. Trouble is...much of that team that was winning in spite of your quarterback is gone, and your quarterback is still there.

Look. LSU has a great team. Very few teams have done what LSU has done over the past 5 years. You will have a very good team this year, and it will only get better over the next few years. However, Georgia is catching LSU at the right time. (My opinion) I think we win this year.....but I have been known to be wrong before!
