How about a fanbase that calls their colors "Harvard Crimson" and "Yale Blue" all the while being one of the poorest schools in the country and having the lowest entering freshman ACT scores in the SEC???
Think those folks might call dibs on the delusion trophy??
Are you serious? Is your criteria for what currently makes a fanbase delusional honestly what someone said in the 1890's?
That's what your school calls your colors TODAY, not just 120 years ago. The delusion simply began in the 1890s. In reality your colors mirror those on the Confederate battle flag, which is perfectly fine, given the Rebels nickname, Colonel Reb, etc. That makes sense. But, to EVER refer to those shades as Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue, which both most cerainly are not, is pretentious and delusional.

After the egg bowl, there must have been 25 threads started on RCR as to why the Egg Bowl doesn't matter to Ole Miss and why MSU is not a rival game. That's a lot of threads to convince yourself that the game means nothing. Quite delusional IMO.
It's funny, because the egg bowl didn't mean anything last year according to state fans here and on ED. It was all about who had the best record. Funny how things change isn't it?

MSU is a good pick. It's completely insane for any fan of theirs to expect a win versus LSU. Although, history suggests it will be the team who finished 3rd in the West (Arkansas 2 years ago, A&M last year) so LSU may be in line to take this title.

For a game that meant nothing to their fan base, the vaginal discharge was epic.
Every fanbase has its lunatic fringe. Let's not pretend that every single MSU fan handled the 2012 Egg Bowl with quiet dignity, and none of them talked about hiring Mark Hudspeth this year.

I don't know about ED, but I think if you polled most MSU fans, 95% would say that Ole Miss is our rival and the Egg Bowl is a "bragging rights" game. On the other hand, I talk to UM people IRL and on message boards, and the group think is that MSU is just another game and UM has much bigger fish to fry than MSU. The reality is quite different though, as evidenced by their posts after a loss.
I just thought it quite ironic that an Ole Miss fan started a thread about delusional fan bases!

For me, it is and always will be, Bama. Based on the fact that they believe that they have won more national titles than they really have.

You're mistaken. Ole Miss currently calls its colors cardinal red and navy blue. Check out page three of the 2013 media guide. Here's a link for your convenience. You can find it a little from the top in the far right column.

I admit there were plenty of pissed off MSU fans after the 2012 Eggbowl. My point is that the common thread among the UM fan base is that the game didn't matter and the Eggbowl is not a rival game.

I get that you're generalizing. I get that it's the only way to try to say that any one fanbase is more delusional than another when that sort of thing is impossible to quantify. If Ole Miss fans told you that the Egg Bowl doesn't matter and it isn't a rivalry game, then they are trying to save face or get under your skin. There's a good chance they don't want to hear you gloat. Of course it matters. Of course it's a rivalry game. Some people in either fanbase will say that the game doesn't matter after their respective team loses. Those people don't speak for an entire fanbase.

Ding Ding Ding...... I think we have a winner! How is this topic still going after this comment? Were you really talking about State?

as far as IRL delusion goes, I had a state fan tell me "mark my words, miss state will be football national champion very soon" immediately following the liberty bowl. Take it fwiw
And the op is an alter.
And your opinion is slightly adjusted by your bias from what reality actually is.
Ole miss' rival is miss state and lsu.
The diff between miss state and ole miss is that ole miss wants to be one of the big fish and OM wants to fry some big fish in order to become one of the big fish. That's ole miss' goal, to become one of the jones'
Miss state fans for the most part, from state fans IRL, do not desire to be one of the big fish, they only desire to be just above where ever ole miss is at the time. That's state's goal, keeping up with the jones'

From Olemisssports.com (your official website):
In 1893, when Ole Miss' first football team was in training for a five-game season, Dr. A.L. Bondurant, organizer and manager-coach, later recalled that "The team had much discussion as to the colors that should be adopted, but it was finally suggested by the manager that the union of the Crimson of Harvard and the Navy Blue of Yale would be very harmonious, and that it was well to have the spirit of both of these good colleges." These were adopted as the football colors, and have since been adopted by the University as its athletic colors. The PMS numbers for the Ole Miss red and blue are as follows: Red 186, Blue 2767.

I think it's a safe bet to think maybe Kentucky fans will be the least delusional. Most delusional will be a tie with everyone in the West.
