Who do we pull for this weekend and where can LSU afford a 2nd loss?
Posted by EveryonesACoach on 10/15/25 at 12:40 pm
Of course pulling for upsets in any of the other conferences that could get 2+ teams in, but what about in conference? I'd assume we want Ole Miss to keep winning and give UGA another loss, but not sure about others and their mix of schedules. We could feasibly have 6 SEC teams at 10-2 or better to end the season, so there isn't enough room for them all to get in.
Assuming LSU finished 10-2, where is that loss the most acceptable to make the playoff, making assumptions on how other teams would finish? Bama? A&M? OU?

re: Urban institute study has Louisiana 2nd in nation in 4th grade reading scores, behind MS

The amount of people in this thread who don't understand that the demographic adjustment isn't the same as affirmative action type practices is mind numbing.
Mississippi and Louisiana has lots of idiots. They adjust for that fact for states with less idiots. They then compare the scores to determine which idiots are actually being taught well. It's a grade of the teaching quality, not the results of the students.

Watching from Florida beachhouse. Overflowed to ESPNews waiting for the previous broadcast to end, now both ESPNU and ESPN2 showing the Miami Southern Miss game.
Maybe they've spared me from a miserable evening.

Interesting feedback. I'm sure this happens in every sport in every city to some degree. It at least sounds like if a kid really wants it and improves to a level that they can't co unnoticed, they'll eventually get their shot.

This was a very helpful response, thank you.
Your comment about politics doesn't surprise me. We're very much treating it with the attitude of any competitive team will help her get better, and that she needs to set a goal and work hard for it next year. I think with the right attitude and coach she could make a real jump by this time next year if she really wants it.

Baton Rouge Soccer Competitive Placement

Completely new to the board, sorry if this is not the place for this post, but here goes. I'm looking for some advice/expectations/direction on any parents familiar with BRSC youth competitive program. This is also coming from someone who did not grow up playing soccer.
My daughter just finished her first year of BRSC pre-competitive program this year and really loved it. She had never done it before, only some dad coached rec soccer with classmates. Because of a late December birthday and yet-to-change age group rules, she had to try out for the competitive program even though she will only be a 10 year old 5th grader this coming fall season.
She was hopeful that she would make the second division "red" team, but found out she was placed on the third division "maroon" team. I understand she was late to the game and shouldn't expect her to be competing with more competent players, but looking for some feedback on what all this means. Does her lacking the experience right now and being in a lower level more or less prevent her from ever rising up in later years? What is the major skill or play differences between the different divisions, and does playing "lower skill" players in the third division make it much harder for her to improve and compete up? Can we expect quality development just from being out there competing each weekend and practicing with real coaches every week?
I have no delusions of her being a top-flight soccer player, but she really loves the game and was very upset thinking she's on the "bad" team now. I think an achievable goal is to be good enough to make her middle and high school soccer teams one day, and not just the kind that has no talent and you're on basically by default. Any feedback for those familiar with the club or the youth soccer scene in general would be great.

Florida the most resilient champion ever?

Four wins with 78%-94% chance of losing at some point in the second half, and they pulled each one off. Just incredible.

Only King Cakes are King Cakes
Posted by EveryonesACoach on 2/18/25 at 9:57 am
Only traditional king cakes with cinnamon, cream, or fruit filling, sugar frosting and sprinkles should be called king cakes.
"Caramel Macchiato" with a whipped cream topping, caramel syrup and pecans on top is not a real king cake. Coconut cream pie is not a real king cake. These can be tasty in their own right, but they are just king cake shaped desserts.
What says the OT?
As an aside, boudin is also not a king cake, regardless of how much I might eat one brought in to the break room.

Did you read the link? It names an out of state contractor that the Gamecoin crew hired, not the creators themselves. It looks like the whole thing was a half baked idea that quickly picked up steam and they threw money at anyone who could supposedly help build whatever it was they were trying to do.
This guy turns around and steals a bunch of money, and the BR residents who jumped on the bandwagon are the ones that got screwed.

Upvote - Carrol deciding to throw from the 1 yard line instead of handing off to Lynch to win the Super Bowl?
Downvote - Sark calling for a toss sweep from the 1 yard line instead of having Arch take the snap and rush for the tying TD?
Carrol's is clearly more consequential, but let's discuss which individual play is a dumber call.

Freeman is a good coach and has recruited well. I'd like what he has brought to ND if I'm an ND fan. This does not mean LSU got it wrong or that Freeman is a better coach than Kelly.
Freeman took an ND team that had 5 straight 10 win regular seasons and a playoff appearance under BK to 8-4 and 9-3 in his first two years, with atrocious losses to Marshall, Stanford, and this season Northern Illinois. They have strung together a nice rebound this season, but have a strength of schedule in the 30s that's bolstered by unexpected "good" wins in Navy and Army who have SOS in the 80s.
BK took what we all know was a program in shambles and has had similar results up until this season with SOS in the top 10. LSU has won some notable games as underdogs during that time, while (unless you want to count the Sugar Bowl against a backup QB) ND hasn't won a single game they weren't already expected to. They are the same as Penn State with an even weaker strength of schedule.
Notre Dame would almost certainly have been fighting in the 9-3 pile of SEC teams had they had to play one of these non Texas SEC schedules this year. They just won a game against a backup QB without scoring a second half offensive TD.
This is a different conversation in 3 weeks if they knockoff Penn State and then OSU.

Putting all the Bama drama aside, WTF Penn State?
Posted by EveryonesACoach on 12/8/24 at 4:12 pm
How in the hell does Penn State get the easiest path? What have they done to earn anything more than a road game in the playoffs. Hosting SMU then playing Boise in the next round. That might be the biggest joke of all of this.

"College educated" just means high likelihood of liberal indoctrination. Every idiot gets a government backed loan to go to college now. Most college grads are bigger idiots leaving than entering and clueless about the real world.
